Faulty handset
My wifes phone Nokia E66 experienced speaker trouble on 13 August 2009. The phone was only 5 months old and we booked the phone with our local Mtn in Boksburg for repairs. The phone was received back after 2 weeks and had exactly the same trouble. It was booked again with the same branch. (job no. 9940 - 27 August 2009).The phone has since came back 3 times from repairs but it is now in an even worse condition. Surely Mtn must replace the handset with a similar but new. What about the fact that we had no handset since 14 August but paid the full subscription? The subscription surely included the handset. Please assist if you can. The staff at Mtn Boksburg is full of stories and I dont believe a word they say. The phone number at Mtn Boksburg is 011 8231901 and my wifes cell number is 0834130660. Awaiting your response.

POOR SERVICE
I received a call from the debt collectors last week, stating that i owe MTN R2000, however i have never received an email, statement, invoice or phone call about outstanding money. I emailed MTN, and someone replied stating that the account is in arrear amounting to R600, and that the account is not with the debt collectors. I had paid the debt collectors lst month. Nobody is giving me any explanations so i am not going to pay anyone until i receive feedback and some assistance with MTN.

Incorrect data furnished when upgrading contract and not changing banking details
I have a contract with mtn for more than two years now. In the first two years I didn't have a problem. Then I went to cancel my contract, but I was advised that if I continue making use of mtn, then I can remain on the same contract, which was a bring you own phone for R35 and you get R105 airtime. All of a sudden I start receiving bills for R86. 7 months have passed, I went int my nearest mtn store, which is also the store by which I did my upgrade, CapeGate. I busted them twice. Phoned in 3 times sent two emails and still nothing! I also changed banking details and because I was advised all was in order, I proceded to close my old bank account. I then could not understand why my debit order still has nit gone off, I was advised that I must wait until the debit order was returned unpaid from my closed account and show that I'm in arrears so that I can make a payment. Do they know how this influences a persons credit record? Some one tried to contact me once and I was left a message to phone them back. Seeing that they have all my contact details why only phone one number and not try the rest or use an alternative contact method? Email of fax perhaps? I also have a Vodacom contract and I must say compared to mtn and Cellc, Vodacom does not give grieve. They give feedback on time and if they cannot get hold of you on your cell, they use an alternative number. It is no use you get a eeference if the case is not sorted out.

MTN-MTY PROMISES - Dishonest personified
MTN-MTY PROMISES - Dishonest personified
In December 2008 I received a call from MTN to say that I was due for an upgrade. When I proceeded to collect my upgrade from MTN K90, I was told that unfortunately I was not due for an upgrade. Now 9 months later I tried again to get my upgrade from MTN K90 and the sales consultant asked me why I have not collected my upgrade in 57months. I told the lady that last year I came to collect my upgrade and was told that I was not due for one and that she should therefore now give me two phones since I should be getting an upgrade every 20 months.
She phoned head office to explain the situation and was told that it’s not their problem that I did not pick up my upgrade and therefore the problem is mine. I then took my upgrade and phoned MTN myself to complain. After I complained I received a call from a telesales lady (Primrose) who told me that I was now due for an upgrade again. I continued to get the ladies details i.e. name and number in the event that I had any hassles.
The very next day I went to get my upgrade again at MTN Woodmead and the gentlemen Lesley proceeded to tell me that he was offline and I would have to come back on Monday with all the paperwork filled out. On Monday I sent my husband with the paperwork and he found Lesley sitting outside his shop. Lesley told my husband that the lady who ran the store over the weekend ran away with the keys and that he should try coming back later in the afternoon. When he went back in the afternoon, Lesley told him that they were now offline and that he should please call MTN from his cell phone to get permission for the upgrade as he was not able to make outside calls from his land line. My husband called MTN and told them to please phone Lesley and give him permission for the upgrade. They too told him they were not able to make outside calls. After questioning this, the telesales proceeded to tell my husband that I was no longer due for an upgrade. I then phoned MTN again myself and spoke to the supervisor who put me through to another department. After explaining the whole story to the lady in charge, she still told me that unfortunately I would not be able to get my upgrade. My cell phone account together with my parents and brother amounts to about R10 000 a month. I told the lady that I would cancel my whole families account if she did not give me my upgrade and she really didn’t seem to care. Obviously MTN does very well judging from the complaints on this website and can afford to lose customers on a regular basis...thanks for the closure...Vodacom here we come!!!

my line
I am writing to express my displeasure at the way my account as a subscriber under your company has been handled so far. As a matter of fact, according to advertisements on Medias, that subscriber, who wish to continue with your network, while leaving the country, should be in touch and as well, notify the company.
I left the country, Nigeria, on 29th September 2008, and before then; I registered my account on roaming. To my surprise and utter disappointment, months after, my line has been transferred to another subscriber.
This, I will not condone and I can assure you that I will not hesitate to take a legal actions should your action be not revoked, since that action had cost me several losses.
My details are:
Name: Charles
Subscribed number: 08034986515

Complaint about excessive rates
I took out a MTN contract 24-05-2001. I have spent in excess of R300, 00.00 worth of phone calls and sms's. I have always paid in full and on time each month. I've had two accounts with MTN; one 3G and one is my mobile. I have just cancelled my 3G account with MTN and have not renewed my Mobile account with them.
I have NEVER received a phone on an upgrade without having to pay in at least R1000-R2000. I have never received an incentive gift or award for being a valued customer. Over and above that, I have been subjected to extortionate rates and debits taken off my account. With particular reference to the 3G product, which I have just cancelled; the prices being charged by MTN are excessive and exorbitant.
On 21-09-2007, I was ill-advised and took out a contract for 3G. The consultant assured me that 1G was more than enough for my purposes, which were explained succinctly. The contract was apparently a special of 1G at R349. My first two bills for 3G were R2995.64 and R5625.75 respectively. This was clearly not what I had signed for for. When I phoned to increase my Gig volume I was told that I could not amend/upgrade the contract; so I had to make do for the contract period. After several more excessive accounts and after numerous phone calls to MTN to no avail, I lodged a complaint on "Hello Peter". This was the first time I received a phone call from MTN to assist with the matter. On 15 July, 2008, a consultant named Peter Feeke tried to explain the 3G billing procedure and in the process, set a cap of R400.00 for me. I signed and faxed documents regarding this. I thought this would resolve the issue of excessive bills. I also thought that MTN would honour their side of this agreement.
Unfortunately, MTN have not honoured their agreement and have consistently charged more than the figure I've signed for. Not being one who checks my accounts closely, I have not noticed the extra couple of hundreds going off my account. I have however noticed when large amounts like R7000 and R8000 have been taken off my account. My latest bill for 3G is R20, 123.00 which was for a period of 13 days. This is simply not possible and I am outraged my the fact that nobody has tended to this massive problem. I have made numerous phone calls, all of which have not been responded to.
I am astounded that nobody can return my call when I have queried the above. But when I faxed through the form to cancel the 3G contract, I received a phone within minutes questioning why I was cancelling the contract! It further astounds me that MTN can hide behind an excuse of "the cap cannot be guaranteed" when there are sophisticated and advanced systems monitoring this.
The service (more so lack thereof) I have received from MTN is atrocious. It is unacceptable, which is why I have not renewed my 8 year long contract. I will no longer accept this shocking service nor will I pay the excessive rates that MTN lure people into paying. MTN's 3G product is malicious and expedient, preying on people who don't know computer details such as the Rand value of a Mb or Gig etc; as well as not honouring agreements set in place to protect their customers.
Below is a table of my bills, illustrating that MTN somply do not comply with the 3G agreement and just debit whatever they like. The ONLY time my account has ever been within the agreement was when I have NOT used it at all.

I have spoken to several consultants, all of whom have not assisted me with the resolution of this matter. I am anxiety struck at the thought of R22 681.70 coming off my account at the end of August. I have sought legal advice regarding this matter, and fully intend to exercise my rights as a customer.
