MTN "15" competition
The new "37187 MTN" competition is so not a good competition. In fact it draws all your money out with the seducing continuous sms's.Yesterday I tried to increase my chances of winning by playing the competition with an airtime of over R450.According to MTN this does not even guarantee your winning ticket. You will always be told that someone else won the competition and you should try again. It seems to me that this competition is only designed for the rich.Literaly it says that lets see who can send more sms’s for R7.5 each and he/she will be the winner. In other terms a person who cannot even afford four sms’s for a total of R30 is not legible for this completion. It is only if you willing to spend R1000 or more that you might win. This competition is not fair because it only targets a certain group that can afford it. We are not even convinced that the winners do exist for real. Why don’t they even show us that the winner won by how many sms`s or points. This competition is a public skelm.I would like to warn every MTN customer to not indulge to this competition.

No invcoies for billed amounts???
Where do I start? This has been a four month saga with MTN!

I recently returned from Europe and my MTN account was in arrears. The last account that I received was mid january for an amount of just under five hundred rands. I went into a store on the 6th of March to settle, knowing that it would be about R269 more (seeing as that was the monthly subscription). When I got into the store, and had to wait 20 minutes for one for the store assistant to get a customer services agent on the phone dialing 808, I was told that the amount owing was R1016. I thought it odd, but seeing as I had not brought the January account with me, I was sure that billing that I was to receive would explain it. I paid an amount of R1020.00 and was told that my sim card would be up and running within 5 days. That was a friday. The following Thursday it was still not connected. Neither was it the friday. By the Tuesday of the following week, I went into the store again and enquired. Another 20 mins of waiting for a call centre agent. Account was still with legal (this was the 17th of march). I phoned the store on the thursday (19th). Nothing. And then blew my top Monday the 23rd as the sim card was still not working. Later that day the sim started working.

I then waited for a bill. Nothing end March. Nothing mid or end April. I phone in and enquire as to where the bills were for February, March and April. We'll email it to you. I wait. And wait. I get a message saying that my account is behind so I call again, only this time I refuse to put the phone down until I see the email in my inbox. Call centre agent can't email to gmail! So the last one just what, made it up that they were sending the info? Eventually, the supervisor gets on to me, and I receive email from her with attachments... This after an hour and a half on the phone. Two days later I get a bill in the post. With a statement. The statement shows an amount of just under five hundred rand due end Jan. Then my payment of R1020 ON THE 9th OF MARCH, then an invoice for R538 27/03/09 and R517.00 07/04/09 and then the current April bill.

I phone in again. Please send me copies of the bills dated 27/03/09 and 07/04/09. After 45 minutes and the call centre operator telling me that I don't know what I am asking for, and that I must just take his verbal explanation as to what the amounts are for I lost it again! How dare he! He tells me I just don't want to understand that there is no paper work for what was billed. I argue but it shows "invoice" on the statement, I want my paperwork! I eventually put the phone down saying I was going to contact the complaints commission.

Two minutes later I get an email. Ping! A copy of the the one invoice (07/04/09). I haven't had the chance to check the bill. I am sure that it will be a stuff up too.

I am still waiting for my March invoice. How dare MTN tell me that they can bill me and don't need to give paperwork!

RIDICULOUS lack of service.

Service delivery - MTN Cellular provider

We are the legal owners of a cellular contract with the above provider. Recently one of our accounts escalated in fees resulting in us querying the astronomical fees charged. The additional cost was fees charged by what they call "service providers" for items such as banking, porno videos, music etc.

This letter is not to complain about the fees but the process and the ethics behind the procedure followed by the above company. Let me also state I am sure they are not the only company that "provde this service.

To give you background, we took this contract out for our teenage son as he travels to Pretoria virually daily to attend UP and he needs to be able to contact us if an emergency arises. As responsible parents we put a limit on the usage on this contract to prevent any abuse as young people do not always understand the meaning of "moderation". I our opinion we took the necessary steps to ensure we would not end up having an unpleasant surprise and for more than a year this was the case.

However, due to this provider's fees we decided that we would not renew the contract when it expired and bought our son a cellular contract with a cheaper provider. The MTN sim was locked in our safe until such time the contract came to an end. Was our surpise great when we discovered the bill has increased virtually four-fold. Upon querying this they informed us this contract was subscribed to several sites for games, music, etc. After explaining to them we wanted them not to continue with this, they promply informed us to contact these providers directly. When asked how they could bill this amount when a credit limit existed on this contract, they informed us the credit limit did not cover content provider subscriptions - something they failed to mention before. We then had to go through the painful process of contacting these providers to cancel these conent subscriptions and explain to my son free games and music sites are not free. Further to this we instructed MTN to cancel this sim and to stop any transactions on this sim.

To our surprise this was not done and yet again we have to pay money to conent providers who did not provide anything as the sim is still locked in our safe and MTN assured us this sim is blocked.

We want to know why do they mislead the public by allowing a credit limit to bypass it by saying this content does not get included in the limit. Furthermore, we want to know why they do not contact the legal owner of the contract to get permission to activate this service when the legal owner has to authorise everthing from address change to itemised billing on the account.

In our personal opinion, this behaviour borders on criminal behaviour and needs to be addressed urgently. We implore you to review this matter and put the necessary steps in place to prevent other consumers from this greed and unethical behaviour.

thanking you

Poor reception
Please please what is wrong with mtn signal ? I work only with cellphones and the mtn reception is terrible. I changed from vodacom because of this problem and the same thing is happening with mtn
During the day there is little or no reception, but later in the evenings it does seem to get stronger.
I am a drilling contractor and need to be in contact with my workers at all times.

faulty unit
After recieving shocking service from MTN from the date I renewed my contract (6 February 2009) I eventually had to book my handset in as it was Faulty - the applications on the blackberry was not working and the handset had to be sent up to Midrand to be fixed, the handset was recieved by Midrand on the 20th March 2009 and was not looked at until 29April 2009, after numerous complaints and phoning around they eventually decded to replace the inside of the phone and sent the phone back to me on 30- which I went to collect yesterday the 4 May 2009, upon collecting it I inspected the phone and the inside of the phone looked shabby and in worst condition than when I sent it in, in actual fact the phone came back in a worst condition! I now cannot make calls from the phone so now the phone has another problem which it initially did not have.I have tried to lodge a complaint with MTN but I get no response and no service! Nobody responds to my emails or calls and I cannot seem to get a reference number out of them so that I may escalate my complaint, it just seems that bad service is all I get from MTN, the service centre Marina in Canal Walk is equally unhelpful and rude at that, she carries a non-chalant attitude and doesn't seem to care about your problem, please help.

Phone Scam
My Mom received a call on her mobile telling her her number had been selected to win a prize of a R7000 holiday. In order to receive her prize all she had to do was top up her MTN Account with R180 Pay As You Go Airtime. This she did and then she received a text/sms stating she had to enter in the given number to qualify for her prize.

She did this and received another message saying her airtime, yes, all R180, had been transferred to the guy who initially called her about the prize.

We are still in the midst of trying to resolve this issue but I would like to warn other people to be careful.

VERY BAD CUSTOMER CARE
I have been an MTN cell phone contract subscriber for the last 14 years. For the last 3 months my itemised bill & statement have been arriving approximately a month late. The latest one I have not even received yet, which is way overdue. The irony of the matter is that I phoned the customer care and was promised on three ocasions that the itemised bill would be emailed to me, on the 4th ocasion I was even promised that it will be faxed to me.It has been a week now and I have received absolutely nothing for a service that I am paying for. What I would like to know is what does one have to do to get mtn to deliver, it appears that no one at mtn cares a hoot.I have now decided that cancelling my dealings with them is the only option.
