Appauling service - billing suspended account opened fraudulently
An account was opened fraudulently using my personal details in December 2010. MTN took from my account (R497) in January; R329 in February and R1009.00 in April 2011. I notified them of this fact and they undertook to refund me in February already - this has not happened and every month I now suffer like this. Its not fair.
I have called, emailed, been to 2 of the branches to be taken only from pillar to post. I was assured that the account has been suspended in February already, yet April comes and they deduct money from my account. Why ??? No one can tell me. The R1009 is really the last straw, I am at my wit's end. MTN please get your house in order and please refund my money. I am contactable on 082 210 0070

Illegal Charges
After complaining about a R700 Migration fee on top of the R104 upgrade fee, (in the upgrade period). Pointing out there upgrade information says “Migration within the price plans that is if you move up one or one down from your existing price plan at the time of upgrade, this price plan migration is free of charge” (clause removed last week) The Migration fee was waived, but a R700 handset Claw back fee was imposed. They have used a clause in their T/C for charging this fee, however it’s been pointed out that this clause is for people migrating before there contract date. As my contract will continue until my term date and only then will my new upgrade contract start, this clause is not pertinent and being used incorrectly. Not only is it not applicable it is illegal with out MTN following certain procedures, which they do not. In fact no fees are allowed to be charged for renewal or upgrade in the upgrade or renewal period. (see Government Gazette 17th June 2008. ICASA Regulations on Handset Subsidy 31156)

not taking liabilty to payments made
I had a contract phone with mtn then in 2008 July I stopped workin an I could nt pay for it so I received a demand letter from trans union debt collectors which I dnt hav anymore because that was in 2008 so I phoned back an explained to them that I'm unemployment as soon as I get my provident fund money I will pay which in November I started paying to the provided account, then mid March to April I started phonin trans union to find out the status of my account they could nt find my details I then had to fax proof of payment to them with 3days later they acknowledge that they received it an they then told me that they have reconcilled the account and have sent all paperwork to Mtn. I then started receivin sms's from another debt collector called VVM Attorney which there were instructed to colled an amount of R12 thousand and some odds regardless of the R6000 paid with trans union I tried to explain to them that I have already so much money already with anoth company I was then asked fax proof of thise payment to them because I could not get the letter from trans union that states that I have paid with them they informed that MTN has taken the account from them and since they submitted all my paperwork to mtn then can not help me any further in future I should contant Mtn. I faxed more than ten copies of proof of payment to VVm an eventually someone acknowledged them then I was instructed to start payin the account before I get listed on credit bereau whilst they investigate, I then paid R250 for months an phone the again was asked again to fax proof an they will get back to me did that an waited now I was nt payin any more they would send sms, emails and would call even an al the time I will explain the same story that I've just explained until on 4 occasions the consultants would say to me they r busy investigation and liasing with mtn with regards to this matter so I shud just wait until yhe get back to me I waited I then receive an sms offering me 30% discount from the R13 thousand that I owed then I phoned and queried that was told okay they busy finding out it they Will call me., until on December the 08th I received a notification from trans union credit bereau that
As foolows Dear Maphalala Consolation N, XDS, a registered Credit Bureau, received a default alert on your MTN SP a/c. Kindly contact VVM on: 0861115352.Ref:05392446.
So now I started phonin again an they asking me proofs again even when I try an phone trans union they dnt seem to help I'm just going back an forth and at the end of the day my name is gonna go bad where as I've paid an none of Mtn or Trans union wants to help and admit to receiving the money while amont close to R6000 went someones acc with the reference #.

Stealing my money
As you will see from the email pasted below all the times I have tried to contact MTNSp for a refund on my account. Even though I cancelled my contract I will still been changed more than 8 months later!

Thanks

This is Lee-Ann Werner again and I am very unhappy. I would like to know whom I can claim to about the service I have received from MTN SP (please note not from your store which have been amazing). I have just been online to check my bank account whch I have not been able to do for months and noted that MTN Sp is still taking R162 off my account each month even though I have given notice and only have one account which should be in the region of R70 per month. I have instead inctructed my bank to stop the payment and refused to make any further payments to MTN SP until I receive a refund.

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS URGENT!!! as now MTN SP has effectively STOLEN in the region of R800 from me and if this is not sorted I will be approaching the OBUDSMEN to sort this out and will seek legal action.

Good Mrs. L Werner

As per our conversation many times before …

I have called our retentions department with regards to you contract, the reference number that you have given me (48302982) was clearly a note to cancel your contract, however it was not done as they did not receive all the documents in time at that time, and when they did receive the paper work it was for some reason not updated on the system

It now has been updated and they have put an immediate cancelation on the contract, I spoke to lady by the name of Shaleen and she put a note on the system, she also requested a re-imbursements for the last 3 months As the contract was to end on the 23-june -2009 on cell number 073-9687494 however the cell number 073-2755379 is not due to terminate yet it only expires on the 08-May-2010 so you will have to e-mail them as you did the last time, but one month before the time you can also send to the e-mail so I can trace up on it for you

Your reff number for the cancelled line and re-imbursement is # 53566752

Many thanks

Raniksha

SO called 'service'
I have been trying...obviously unsuccessfully...to make a simple acount change to my MTN cellphone account...for 4 MONTHS!

This is after i personally, at MTN TYGERVALLY, submitted ALL the documents I was informed that i needed to submit. I specifically waited until the contract period of 24 months (and by the way, i have had this account for 14YEARS) so that there would be no hassles or hold-ups.

I have been BACK to MTN TYGERVALLY 3 times...no help.

As i am writing this, i have been holding on the MTN 808 customer 'service' number for 1HOUR and 23min. This is the 5th...yes 5TH time that i have been able to hold this long before giving up. My calls has not ONCE...in 3 MONTHS...been answered during office hour. Not...ONCE!

When i do get through...after eight at night...guess what!? The 'acounts department' isn't there...so i get told to call back tmrw.

Fine...so i tried the internet and email. Let me just rather make an extremely infuriating story short and sweet and tell you that MTN has NO...ZERO...service at ALL.

I am DESPERATE to cancel my service with MTN, but retain my number.

If there is ANYONE at Vodacom that can help me quickly...please get in touch.

The worst thing is...i cannot even get HOLD of this USELESS company to get cancel this. And unlike Vodacom...there is no callback or customer feedback system in place. I wonder why?

Can you honestly tell me that so many people are complaining to MTN that they have people holding for over an hour. Its not pathetic...its CRIMINAL!!

I contact MTN and send them emails and they don't even respond to my inquiries they just ignore my complaint

HI This is now my 6th inquiry
My Previous contract was a my call 100 and my account always closes on the 11th of each month. On the 16 /02/09 I have migrate to a R350.00 any time contract 5 days after the previous months bill have already closed however you have invoiced me for the new 350 any time contract and I was supposed to pay just for the previous my call 100 contract R149.00 Not R449.00 that I was bill for. So from the 11/02/09 I have received my free minutes and again you have charge me for the new contract R449.00 HOWEVER my account was billed according to my old contract,
With previous calls to the call center they promised that they will rectified the problem and credited my account but up to date my account is still not in order.
You have charged me 2 months for the 350 anytime contract but I didn’t received this airtime.

Can you please rectifies my account otherwise I will get legal advise against MTN
Thanks

MTN SP Technical Services - Disappointed
To whom concerned

My heart goes out to all the other disappointed MTN customers who have to endure the torture of going to MTN for service.

Unfortunately my Nokia 5610's screen went blank and there was a crack in the camera lens. On the 31st of January 2009 I took my phone to MTN Canal Walk where I was informed that the phone would have to be booked in. Because of my previous experiences with MTN I contemplated taking it to another repair centre, but I was informed that my warranty might lapse. I therefore booked the phone in and provided my proof of purchase together with my ID.
I asked the consultant how long it would take and he (Clinton) pointed out that it will take no longer than 2 weeks because their repair centre is now located in close proximity.

The 2 weeks past and I was phoned to come and collect my phone (18-02-2009). Before going to Canal Walk for collection I phoned the MTN High Volume Repair Centre (0839000349) to confirm whether my phone is indeed fixed and to get specifics thereof. They confirmed that the LCD screen was replaced and that the camara lens was fixed. On arrival I took my little number and waited to be called, patiently sipping on my free coffee. I was called and was informed that I will have to pay R449.00 for the repair because it is not convered by the warranty. I asked the consultant lady (Emfrid Hansen) whether I could first inspect my phone before paying and I was told that it is company policy to first pay and then peek. I obediently swiped my Nedbank card and when the phone arrived, to my horrer, the camara was not fixed, only the LCD.

And here the shuffle and shape shifting started.

I asked to speak to a senior and a consultant gentleman (Tyrone) was asked to intervene. He confirmed with a Seduck at the MTN High Volume Repair Centre (0839000349) that the repair will be done free of charge. A confirmation e-mail was also forwarded to a Natalie White (021-5272000) and the R449.00 was reversed. I asked how long it would take and they stated that they will prioritise the repair, again.

And I waited... On 26-02-2009 I was phoned to pick up my phone. I again phoned twice to MTN High Volume Repair Centre (0839000349) to confirm whether the phone was fixed and they confirmed that I can pick up my phone. At MTN's Smartserv Building, Canal Walk I took my number. The consultant gave me papers to sign and I received my phone. It seemed the crack was gone and I went home. I was extatic, just to come back down to earth.
The 3.4 megapixel camara can now only take foggie photo's (as if everything is behind a white cloud). At least prior to submitting it for repair to MTN the picture was clear with only a noticable crack. On 27-02-2009 I returned to MTN and obviously I was told that they will have to book it in again. I told them that it was getting a bit out of hand specifically because I need my phone for work and also to take photo's at site inspections. I was given a phone (bottom of the range) which I was told can only receive sms's and your standard phone call. What could I do but except it? I was told that it will be prioritised in the que for repairs.

And then I waited again...

On 05-03-2009 I again phoned the MTN High Volume Repair Centre (0839000349) and spoke to a gentleman (Andre) to check on the status of my phone. He confirmed that the phone was delivered to MTN's Smartserv Building, Canal Walk the day before and that I can pick it up. I aslo phone the same number again to speak to a different consultant just to make sure and she also confirmed.
On the same day I went back to MTN Canal Walk at about 17h00 to pick up my phone. The consultant lady filled in all the forms, accepted their loan phone back, made a copy of my ID and disappeared to the back. On her return after a significant wait she informed me that the phone was there but was taken away by another MTN employee, Natalie White. In a nutshell, my phone was there on the 04-03-2009 and on 05-03-2009 was manually remove from the shop without a new job card reference number. Now I am standing there in amazement.

Now Tyrone (who I previously dealt with) assists and gives me numbers to phone and promises to get back to me personally. He could not believe that this matter is still ongoing. He also gave me the number for Natalie White. I once again leave MTN, but this time I had no idea where my phone was. At Canal Walk they say my phone is with Natalie and at the MTN High Volume Repair Centre (0839000349) they say the phone is at Canal Walk. Neither Tyrone nor Natalie have since contacted me.

I left messages on 06-03-2009 at 021-5272000 for Natalie to phone me. According to the lady who answered the phone she was either busy taking stock or their system was offline, or she cannot e-mail Natalie now, or I am at the switch board and I cannot reach her now.

Please imagine my frustration. This is what causes heart attacks and/ or heart palpitations.

It is today09-03-2009 and they are offline again.

What do I do? This is a disgrace!
