Beware of solicitors!
Beware of teens or young adults (high school or college age) knocking on your door, trying to sell books that supposedly go to children's charities. A young man in his early 20's, claiming his name was Roger and a neighbors' son (he probably got the neighbor's name because it was one of the houses he visited), said he was trying to sell books to earn a trip to London to work on TV shows for the BBC. He also claimed that he only needed 3 more sales to make his goal. He said he went to college in southern California and rattled off a bunch of other factoids that sounded quite convincing. The kid was pretty slick and almost had me convinced until I asked how I'd know that he was legitimate. He showed me the web site where I could go to track my donation by typing in the receipt number that he'd give me. He also quickly clarified that I would not be able to track my donation for at least 3 days.
So before I proceeded with any donation, I whipped out my iPhone and pulled up mydynastysales.com. It looked like a pretty legitimate web site and I figured that any smart scam artist could easily create a fake site. So I googled "mydynastysales" and found this complaint forum. I started to rattle off all the complaints to "Roger" and he quickly started backing off the sales pitch. He claimed that he was mortified by the fact that he was being misled by My Dynasty Sales and apologized. He left in a hurry because he knew the gig was up. Nice kid, but don't be fooled!

Never received product
I ordered a magazine subscription from a young man claiming he was raising funds to go to London on his school band trip (he played the Sax). The receipt said that subscription should arrive w/in 120 days. It did not. I wrote them. They wrote back and said that they had sent it to an address of mine that was 2 years old and not the one I had submitted on my paperwork. They indicated that they would send the back issues and all future issues to the address I provided. It has been another three months and I have not received anything in the mail. Now, when attempting to contact them, their email contact form does not work.

Book Sale
A young kid that called himself Nate Wing, gave me a story that he needed to sell a certain number of these books to go to Europe. I heard the story that he had family in the area, for his safety, I better not see him in this area again.

My Dynasty Sales Ripoff

Book sales ripoff
I too have been ripped off for $49 on Sept. 15, 2008 in Muncie, IN. A kid who called himself Nate Wing said he was a Michigan State University student and had relatives living in the area. He claimed he was in a contest to earn a trip to Europe selling books for one of his classes at MSU and the books could go to the underprivledged or to myself. Heard later from my US Mail carrier that he was down the street telling a totally different story and lying to someone else. Unfortunately, I let the ball drop and did not go find him nor cancel my check. Too bad, now all the honest pe0ple in need of help will have to look elsewhere...I won't be burnt twice and should have known better.

fraudlent presentation
A young man came to our door, said he lived near here. He was asking to if would buy some magazines to help him and his soccer team get a trip to Italy.
He had quite a patter going on, and said something about the magazine didnt have to come to us if we didnt want them. They could send them to some of our servicemen and women overseas.
Now that hit a soft spot in me, usually I just close the door, but I ended up believing him on that point. SO, we asked him to come in and go over the list of magazines to try and decide what to get. As we talked, his story changed, and he was now telling us how he was the son of a retired Navy family, and that this was to get magzines for the guys overseas. Its like he forgot about the initial push of this "soccer team" and pressed on.
When we asked how much they would be, he said each magazine wa a different price, but because we were buying his last four sets he needed to sell, that we could get them all at the same price. And proceeded to write out four separate receipts. Very little information on these, and I noticed there was a $15 fee on each order even though multiple blocks were available to enter more than one magazine.
After he left, I started getting a really bad feeling, thinking of the discontinuity in his story. So I looked up the firm labled on the receipt. And, sure enough, many complaints, and many reports of "scam".
So, I promptly called my credit union and put a stop payment on the checks. So my stupidity cost me $28 instead of $200.
I should have gone with my first gut instinct, and closed the door, instead of falling for the "Serviceman gambit".

Misrepresentation
A SDSU student, in a contest to earn money for a trip to London, was selling books and magazines. He told me since I was a teacher I qualified for a discount, buy 2 get the 3rd one free. There were several books I was interested in, so that was an easy decision. He quoted me $34 and $32 for the books and when it came time to write the receipt, he wrote them on two separate receipts and gave me a total of $98. When I looked closer at the final cost ... because the books were written on two seperate receipts he was charging me a flat rate $15 S&H fee twice! He said that is how they were instructed to write the receipts.
I felt bad that now both his time and mine had been wasted ... then I came in to look online to file a complaint only to realize that others have had negative experiences and I, too, am unable to access their website. Something funny is going on!
Needless to say, "Nick" left very unhappy, as it is now dark and he doesn't know if he'll get anyone to open their doors for him to continue his sales.
