I signed up online to receive a free ten day trial for the Everbright Teeth Whitening kit. All I had to pay was shipping. Less than an hour after I made the transaction, I received a phone call from someone who knew that I had purchased the kit, and they tried to talk me into an additional three months worth of product. I said absolutely not, I only wanted the free trial. Ten minutes later, I received another phone call from someone reading off the same script. I again declined the offer and got angry this time. I said I didn't want anything more to do with their company, I regretted ordering the free kit, and for them to take me off their call list. Nowhere did I see anything about automatically being signed up for monthly kits at over $87/month. And if that was the case, why did someone call me to try and sell me more? So I thought I was done with these people.
Imagine my surprise when I checked my bank statement and saw the additional $87 charge!
When I called the customer service, the lady had no sympathy for me. She said it wasn't my fault that I didn't read the fine print. She also denied that her company called me to try to sell me any more product! She gave me a web address to cancel my order, but since it was not within the ten days from the original free trial transaction, I would have to pay a restocking fee for the first month's worth (a whopping 45%!) I said that I told the sales reps over the phone on the day I placed the original order that I didn't want any more, so they had no right to try and send me any more. She once again told me that her company does not make such sales calls.
So I went to the web address that she emailed to me and followed the instructions, in the hope that I can be rid of this nightmare, even if it costs me 45% of my $87.
The bank is trying to contest the charge at my request. They have also issued me a new card number, so the Everbright people cannot charge me for anything else.
But since the money goes to a foreign bank, I doubt that I will ever see any of that money.
This has SCAM written all over it. And beware! They have several other company names that are related to teeth whitening. Be sure to research whatever company you wish to try before falling for the same scam under a different name.
