Thank you the forum to discuss this matter because I certainly don't have one with this podiatry practice. I am a flight attendant with quite severe foot pain. Obviously, I work on my feet - on a shifting platform - for up to 10 hours at a time. When I went to see MyFootDr, they took my full history, including the nature of my work - indeed I was even in my work uniform (including the heeled shoes that we are required to wear) for my first visit. I was assured that 'Yes, we can help you - we use the latest cutting edge technology - blah blah. The first visit cost $195 which I later found out was more than 3 x the usual podiatrist's fee in Brisbane. Nearly $600 later, I collect my new orthotics only to find to my horror, that they are ENORMOUS. There is no way they will fit in anything I wear, not even my joggers. The orthotic won't even go into my work shoe let alone allow my foot in after it. I go back to the clinic and point this out. The podiatrist tells me something like 'OK, well now you have made it clear what it is you want (like it was my fault), I can make that. It will be another $315." In response to my suggestion I go elsewhere ' Sure you could do that but you would be starting off from scratch with another clinic. This remake will be the cheaper option' Against my better judgement, I followed his advice and ended up with... an orthotic exactly the same size but of a softer orange / pink foam material - the 'sports' model. I stomped off without collecting it of course but they had insisted on having half payment up front so I am another $157.50 out of pocket.
Ultimately, I ended up with some great orthotics from elsewhere. The initial consult was $65 and my total out of pocket was somewhat less than with MyF**tDr. That expense was fine because the orthotics are great, my pain is gone and they fit in my work shoes, joggers and even my backless sandals just fine. If I could give any of your readers a piece of advice, do some research into types of orthotics. This is how I found a great website of a clinic near me and I found it made a comment on every aspect of orthotic treatment that I wanted (needed) reassurance for after my dreadful first experience. It seems to me now that the orthotic construction is a very important matter. The excellent pod I went to uses an orthotic laboratory to make her orthotics. As she explained to me, she can send them to Lab A, B or C depending on my requirements. The MyFootDr franchises buy these automated grinding boxes for tens of thousands of dollars and hey - guess what - it's exactly the only kind of orthotic that everybody who goes there needs. Sure, I had to wait a week to get them but, so what? So beware. Shop around, research and ask questions.
