They called my home to try a sell some magazines. My 17 year old son answered the phone and thought they were legit. He gave them his bank card number to order Sports Illustrated and XXL magazine at $40 for both magazines combined. They told him his first magazine would arrive in about 2 weeks, needless to say they never came and this company deducted $350 out of his bank account. They also tried to attached a permanent bi-weekly deduction of $200. The bank has since canceled that card and changed his bank account number.
I called to speak with these people and they said the only way they will speak with me is if I fax them a copy of my son's birth certificate to verify his age and provide them with his social security number prove that we are discussing the same person. When I refused they said that the only way they will speak with me concerning his account is if he calls and gives them permission to do so. We did just that and they still refused with out a copy of his birth certificate and social security number.
These people seem to prey on teens and the uninformed to steal money from. I've contacted our states office of consumer affairs and the Clark Howard show to investigate these people. Don Not Trust them if they call you and please warn your children not to give out any personal information to anyone. My son has learned his lesson and he will not be a victim again.
