About 6 months ago I had the ABS repaired at a Chrysler dealer in Iowa and paid $600.000 (442 .00 ICU part and 127.00 for labor) to have the Integrated Control Unit replaced (ICU - contains many parts including the ABS pump). I called the dealer in Iowa (McGurk-Meyers Chrysler) and they stated that the parts and labor have a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty on it (only put 6,000 miles since I had it repaired) and that I could take it to any Chrysler dealer and they would honor the warranty.
On Monday night July 10th 2006 I dropped off my car at Napleton's Schaumbug Chrysler to look at a why the Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) light is lit on my 1998 Chrysler Sebring.
On Tuesday July 11th the service manager "Bob" called back and said that I needed a pump and he didn't know how the other dealer only charge me $600.00. He also said the pump was a different part and that the part alone was $600 and it would take 3 hours at $100.00 and hour. When I pressed for details he was very vague. Being an engineer his answer didn't make sense.
I was not going to pay $1200.00 so I told him that I would pick up the car.
He told me that he was going to charge me $52.00 for the analysis.
Afterwards I was suspicious so I pulled out my shop manual (Detailed manual of my car printed by the manufacturer) and started looking at the parts that comprised the ABS on my car. Sure enough the part that was replaced in Iowa was called the ICU and did contain the pump.
I also noticed that Bob, in service, put down he wanted to charge me $1200.00 but I refused. Your darn right I refused!
I wonder how many other customers had their pockets emptied by this dealer.
