Incompetent customer service
I made my monthly credit line payment to national city bank by speaking to their account rep. on the telephone. she took my checking acct info and confirmed the payment. later i found out that the payment was not applied to my acct. because she screwed up the check #, so as a result thy decided to report me late to the credit bureau. when i called to discuss the matter i found that thy were completely unresponsive, rude, disrespectful and totally unwilling to correct their mistake. i left four messages to speak with there accounts manager and wrote a letter to the collection department asking for assists in resolving the matter and received not one return call. it is my opinion that this company has no respect for its customers, no concern with reporting the truth to the credit bureau and absolutely no moral integrity to speak of and i hope this letter will help others to avoid doing business with national city bank.

Bad service
Over Memorial Day weekend my mother was admitted to the hospital on an emergency and it was discovered she had Stage 4 Lung Cancer and was going to die. I rushed to Detroit to be by her side. The day after Memorial Day I was checking our National City account and found we were negative due to un-posted authorizations coming though. It was 4pm and I needed to be on the road to return to Grand Rapids I was unable to hunt down a National City branch in an area I was unfamiliar at rush hour to clear up the matter. Upon arriving back in Grand Rapids I deposited cash funds into a National City ATM to bring the balance positive and my husband sent an email to Patrick LeBlanc at the Eastbrook Office requesting he speak with the Branch Manager regarding waiving any fees that may post due to the extreme family emergency.
I was forced to return to Detroit on Thursday to be with my mother who took a dramatic turn for the worse so my husband continued to try and work on the issue. We did not get credits or returned emails from Patrick. My husband left a voice mail for Patrick asking for an update which was not returned. Besides our DDA and Savings Account my husband recently moved his 401K from a former employer to National City Investments. At retirement this fund will be worth over $200, 000.00. Sadly my mother passed away on Saturday May 31, 2008 and we were left with 5 overdraft fees still sitting on our account at a time we could not afford these. While in route to Detroit on Monday June 2 my husband discussed with Patrick how the branch manager Annemarie was not only threatening the loss of our DDA and Savings Account but also the investment account over a few overdraft fees. Patrick took the attitude that if you move it you move it he did have Annemarie finally call my husband on Tuesday, June 3 her call came during the visitation for my mother.
To our disgust, this branch manager showed no compassion or understanding for our loss or the circumstances surrounding the loss of my mother. She flat out refused to credit the fees saying there was no bank error. We feel a bank error had occurred because not all your pending debit card authorizations show in pending, they surprise you the day they post causing negative balances. This is a bank error because those same merchants that do not appear at National City appear on our Fifth-Third account as pending. This practice is a clear attempt by National City to generate negative balances and increase fee revenue which Annemarie was more concerned about getting then showing humanity and compassion to a customer.
A financial institution who places such an individual leadership who is more concerned about fees then compassion is not an organization we will use. We have closed our DDA and savings accounts and am in the process of moving the IRA out. We will be informing others of the actions of National City.

Terrible experience
NATIONAL CITY BANK will STEAL money from you!!! DON'T BANK with NCB!!! I had 8 OD charges post to my account because they held onto a deposit. I made a deposit at 9:06 am 7/7/08 and even, though it posted on 7/7/08 the branch manager told me that I shouldn't have counted on the funds being available until 7/8/08. He told me I was in the error and that the bank was providing me a service for paying the debits. WHAT?
First of all, I was not in error and second how is the bank doing me any favors by charging my account 272 dollars for 70 dollars worth of so called unpaid debits!!! MY money was in the account to cover the debits, my bank just chose to put the debits through before the deposit. (Even though on paper, on my Interim statement, the deposit went through first and then the 8 OD charges appear.)
I had a Interim Statement print out, of my account, before I went to talk with the branch manager. He said ' oh, I can't read that.' Let me take a look at your account from my computer. He sat there and crunched some numbers. Then he told me I was in error. Blah Blah Blah. I don't know where he got his numbers but they didn't match my bank ledger or my statement. I ask him for a copy of my account numbers from his computer screen so that I could compare numbers. He said NO. I ask him why? He said it just wasn't possible. HOW SHADY! How could that not be possible for him to make a printout from his computer?
I asked him if he could please just refund half of the overdrafts charges. I said that the 272 dollars was going to hurt my family pretty badly this month. All this CREEP of a bank manager had to say was that it was my banking error. It was all my fault. There was NOTHING he could do about it.
SO... what can we the people, who have been RAPED and ROBBED by NCB do?? I told the branch manager that I would be closing my account next week and filing a complaint with the OCC. ( Office of the Controller of the Currency, Administrator of National Banks). This guy was unfazed. He said go right ahead. I was in the wrong and that was that.
I am not the only one, either! I have read MANY similar complaints about NCB holding onto deposits to their advantage. If they aren't predatory, why are so many other consumers closing their National city Bank accounts?

Unfair and Deceptive Practices
National City Banking: Unfair and Deceptive Copy to OCC
I am writing this letter to inform you of my findings and to allege that NATIONAL CITY BANK is currently engaged in carrying out unfair and deceptive trade practices
I understand that the Federal Trade Commission Act prohibits the unfair and deceptive trade practices. The bank regulatory agencies have authority under this act to take action to stop or prevent trade unfair or deceptive practices by financial institutions.
For several years, the bank regulatory agencies have been issuing warnings about unfair and deceptive trade practices and now I have become personally involved in what I consider to be a blatant attack on both my wife and I by National City Bank in Louisville, KY. This institution has both misrepresented information and has blatantly mislead us.
I have always deposited my check in National City Bank without incidence. If my check went in I could always count it clearing on Monday night. However my check went in and it was held until Tuesday night (for no reason) even though our receipt states on it that the funds would be available the next business day.
My wife read on the receipt that “the funds will be available the next business day, thus she was confident that Monday night all would clear and all would be well. Nothing stated that it would be held until Tuesday night and we were sure of it because the receipt clearly stated and assured her that if it were held by the bank that it would be stated above their was nothing stated above. Now we are heavily grieved because we were and are in the black except for the huge amount of fees which will total over $300.00 and has put our account seriously in the red. This has consumed almost our entire paycheck . EXCEPT FOR THESE unjustified LATE FEES WE were still IN THE BLACK.
This money was our gas money, and our car payment.
We are the consumer, and if we get a receipt that says it will post the next business day then that is what we are led to believe. That is what the bank receipt said. We should be able to put our trust into what the bank says.
Thke receipt said the next business day was 06/16/06 and it said the funds would be available on the next business day. THIS BANK IS OUT TO INTENTIONALLY DECIEVE PEOPLE.
When I called National City and told them they had made a mistake I was told I should have read the fine print in the original contract that they hold checks all except $100.00 The mail out we received never gave any indication that checks would be held. But rather that checks would only be held if they were over $3000.00
As a consumer I "should not have to become a detective to read every square inch of fine print to find out the true terms and conditions of my checking account.
I truly feel my wife and I have been deceived, tricked, lied to and stolen from by National City Bank.
My online readout ( of which I have a hard copy) shows I have been in the black up to the time they took the late fees out. And if the money would have posted when the receipt said it would their would be no problem.
If they were going to hold our check until Early Wednsday morning it should have stated it but it said NEXT BUSINESS DAY. If it said on the receipt “funds available next business day” what would you have assumed?
My wife and I feel violated. We had enough money in the account to cover the check WHY DID THEY HOLD IT? My computer readout which I have a copy said it went in on the 16th I have a hard copy however the banks copy is mysteriously different.
The bank that refuses to release the money to us Is the Jeffesontown KY branch (Our Branch)and the branch at 2503 Hurstbourne Parkway where we made the deposit.
Why are they doing this to us? we did nothing wrong.
I have my car all made up and driving around town it says “Honk if you hate national city bank” and National City Bank Ripped me off. You would be amazed how many people in this town hate National City Bank and have told me they have been ripped off by them also. I will continue driving it around and I have already been personally responsible for having four accounts closed with them and this is just the first day.
Would you please pray with us that God himself will turn against National City Bank and bankrupt it. And tell all Christians to pray. We have a lot of Christians praying now. I have been sharing my story with everyone I meet and now my car can really tell the story. I feel a full scale investigation is paramount, I don’t want to see anybody else have go through what we are having to endure, and I know they are hurting people.
Sincerely,
Lawrence J. Hasenour
Louisville, KY

Thieves
If you don't want your money stolen from you then do not use this bank. 1st of all they deduct your debits charges hold them in pending then wait until a larger amount comes in and post it first after they have already debited your debit amounts then charged overdraft fees for all of them. I had an unexpected (higher then usual telephone bill when my son was over and ran my phone bill up) I have my phone bill set up in bill pay. I also use the online banking. Used my debit card on 3 occasions on a Friday 1st one was a debit at 7:30 a.m. posted to my account as soon as I used it, money was there for the debit charges used, National City debited my account with still a balance but, they put those in pending status and yet deduct them then on Monday phone bill came in after the debit charges low and behold they posted the large amount first then posted the 3 debits that were posted on Friday, I called them Monday evening and explained to the dumb *** girl that it was going to put me in a big overdraft from the way they did it she said it wouldn’t because it looked like I was short only $2 I explained that it wouldn't and it was a rip off on how they post the largest amount after the debits were already there she was rude could care less, I told her I was going to check the next morning sure enough there they were all 4 in overdraft. So I called that evening this lady could care less either I wasn't nice by this time on how they steal from you she told me if I would kept a register it wouldn’t of happened I told her the one payment came in unexpectedly and those debits should of never been posted after the large one coz they were already taken out. She argued that they were in pending but yet I saw that they did take the amounts out of my balance as soon as they hit the account. She then told me she would contact the main branch, did he informed her he would not *** the charges because I had banked there a long time and they always take the largest amount first and I should keep a register (WHY??? what does that have anything to do with they still would take your money and I always use online banking no different then a register). I have no problem paying if I am in an overdraft at my fault but, when they put it in an overdraft so they can get those charges that IS THIEVING!!! Not the first time we had seen this happen on how they post. PLEASE DON"T USE THIS BANK!! They are getting rich from us that work hard for our money and they could care less!!! Just watch how they post your account and you also will see.

I'm angry
I recently learned that National City was Millions of dollars in debt and now these overdraft fees are making more sense. And ***, they really kick you when your down. I have never had a 36 dollar fee forgiven, even though some were banking errors. If anyone wants to get a group together with proof of unethical banking, I’m all for a class action! I have a lot of print outs to argue the case as I’m sure many of you do. Anyway, the representatives on the phone are extremely rude, I asked to talk to a manager this morning and the guy hung up on me.

Cancellation of Home Equity Loan
My husband and I had a $60.000 line of credit with National City. Our home is paid off and worth approximately $175, 000. We currently owe about $6, 500 on this line of credit, have prepaid thousands of dollars ahead of schedule and are very conservative consumers with little additional debt. My husband forgot to make the May payment - we were 13 days late and National City cancelled the line of credit with a very nasty letter. My husband tried to call them (he is a relatively mild personality) - the first woman hung up on him. He called a second time and was told "Tough - you are delinquent". When he explained that he prepaid the loan and was actually ahead of scheduled payoff by thousands of dollars he was told that he did that for his benefit, not theirs.
We are not just customers of National City Bank, we are also shareholders. I can guarantee you that we will be neither in the near future. This company sucks and I hope they go bankrupt. What a stupid way to run a business.

Fraudulent rates
I've had a home equity credit line with this bank for 5 years. I just locked in a fixed rate on the variable-rate portion of the loan and was quoted a rate of 5.27%. When I got my next statement, however, I saw they had locked me in at 5.95%. The same exact thing happened 5 years ago when I was quoted 5.19% and locked in at 5.68%. I have spent hours going through their endless phone menu system, being put on hold, and sitting at the local branch office waiting to talk to a manager trying to get this problem resolved. Whenever I do finally talk to someone, they tell me they will get to work on it and get right back to me. They never do.

Scam and fraud!
I am finally closing a HELOC with National City, they are the worst company I have ever dealt with. During closing when I sold the house with financing from them, they would not disclose the payoff amount to the title company. They would also not disclose the payoff to me over the phone claiming it was illegal, which is not true I even asked the agent to tell me the statue and of course she couldn't. They also required additional documentation from me to prove that the account was for a property that they hold a lien on, are you kidding me? Talk about incompetence!! I should have refinanced the loan when I moved because they would not change that billing address because I could not prove that I had moved out of the house.

Unethical practices
My husband and I refinanced our home in Nov. 06 and took out a line of credit with National City. We never used even half of it and paid most of it off when a business deal we used it for was finished. We currently have less than $30, 000 on it and have never been late with a payment and have always paid much more than due. We have A credit - we got a letter on April 28, 2008 that was dated April 23, 2008. They said that they have closed our line of credit because their automated system said our house decreased in value from $435, 000 to $386, 500. No warning - our only credit cards are linked to this loc. We paid closing costs of a couple thousand dollars (normal fees) for a loc that we only used 18 months.
That is annoying and wrong I think - but it gets better. The letter also said that any charges against the loc made after TWO days of letter date (23rd) would not be honored. So...from the 25th on, National City would not honor any charges we made. But, we didn't get the letter until the 28th so that means that there are gas charges, a payment to pay off a small balance on a previous card, etc. are being refused!! Now I have to do damage control.
And the best part is today I get my statement from them for May and they have charged me a $30.00 fee for a check they refused! I am so angry that I can't even begin to figure out what we are going to do. We all know who wins when you sue - usually legal fees make it not worth it but I am tempted.
Do NOT use National City whatever you do - we are researching the banking regulatory thing but who knows…
