Submitting order without consent
I just called about the official 2.1 Million Dollar Sweepstakes from National Magazine Exchange and was quickly put through to buying subscriptions to magazines. Now at first, I was just thinking about the fact that my subscription to Maxim had just expired and was looking to see if I could get a renewed subscription at a reduced price through the Company. I guess scam or no scam I was getting my magazine again. Shortly after I got on the phone with the Company I found this website and all of the complaints that were filed. I did, however, submit my credit card number over the phone before I really became concerned with my order. When I had realized my mistake I quickly notified the person on the line that I was no longer interested and would not want to purchase anything from them. You could tell that the person on the line was extremely frustrated and hung up the phone shortly after. I immediately called the hotline to remove my address and number from the system and was successful. Curiosity chimed in and I looked at my bank account online. Apparently, without my consent, the company processed my order anyway because I am showing a pending debit card payment of the exact amount I was quoted on the phone for the subscription. I called the Special Data Service number (727-524-3600) and they said no such order had been placed and that I should call back later and check on it. The bottom line is that I was stupid for giving out my credit card number, however, I did not give them permission to use it. It's like asking someone to hold on to a $20 bill so you can pick something else up, and then they spend it behind your back. Terrible...

SWEEPSTAKES RIPOFF
I am so happy I took the time to check out this whole "sweepstakes" out before calling them back. I can understand why people would call to enter a sweepstakes. What I don't understand and why anyone would give someone thier credit card number if they did not expect to be charged something, be it 1 dollar or 200 dollars. I know people are fast talkers, but you have to GIVE this information freely in order for them to get it.
I have now been sitting on hold for 20 minutes after calling to have my name removed from thier mailing list and being given a different 1800 number (800-308-6247) and being told to "please stay on hold while I finish with the last caller". I am holding just to see if someone actually gets on the line to take down my information. So far... NOT.

Scam for Sweepstakes
I received a scam notification concerning a sweepstakes I haha won that is sponsored exclusively by National Magazine Exchange. Prize to be awarded as 30 annual installments of $70, 000.00 or a lump sum payment of $1, 100, 000.00.
My ID# is 772623137 but I came to this site to check it out first. They even had the disclaimer down "There is no purchase required to enter or win and a purchase will not improve your chances of winning." And my contact date is by January 22, 2009.

scam contest
My elderly mother has been receiving these scam offical prize listings for a long time. I am lucky in the fact that she is not able to act on this notifications herself. They give her entry #'s and id #'s and tell her to call 1-888-727-6247 by a certain deadline in the hopes of winning over $2 mil. I beleive that this company and well as others are preying upon the elderly in order to gain bank account info so that they can wipe them out. If at all possible I like some information on how to stop these companies from sending my mother this scam mail.

Fraud?
While we were on the phone, I googled her "company" and saw nothing but complaints. I asked her politely to cancel my "subscriptions" for that reason. She complied and said that it had been cancelled. However, immediately after I went online and my credit card was already billed for that transaction. It is possible that it will be cancelled, but has not as of now.

RIP OFF
When I spoke with the customer service rep for this company and he said they would charge my card, I plainly stated to the rep that " I DO NOT WANT YOU TO CHARGE ANYTHING TO MY CARD". " I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO DO THIS AT THIS TIME AND I WILL CALL YOU BACK WHEN I AM ABLE TO DO SO." Two day's after this call I was charged on my card. When I called to company to have them reimburse me they say that they CANT! I also asked to cancel, they say they CANT do that either! Not only that, they only asked me to pick 3 magazine's, I have been charged for 11! How is this company still in buisness? I have since closed my account to stop further charges from this company. And who in there right mind would pay over $200 in magazine subscriptions? Maybe the more fortuniate...but our economy these day's sucks, my money need's to go elsewhere!
