Nationwide Home Warranty Reviews

Terrible Terrible experience
I purchased their home warranty with two additional option for my refrigerator, So I paid Extra money and I paid $413 . I opened a claim with them over a month ago to repair this refrigerator. The technician evaluated the refrigerator and said company will contact me and was asking me $60 Deductible that I said my deductible is $50, But he was asking for $60 and I did not pay him and he was saying Ice maker and water cooler is not covered and I had the proof that was the email which I asked company to email me and after that he asked for maintenance paper records and this is exactly like other complaints, My claim was denied because I couldn't provide any maintenance records. I asked what maintenance records would be required for a 6 years old refrigerator and I wasn't given a clear answer (probably since there isn't one). So not only am out the full cost of this repair I also had to pay the technician the $60 deductible. Save your money and much more importantly your time and never do business with this company. I am asking to get back my money and they say the contract is not refundable, while I had Warrenty with Liberty Warrenty Company and because I sold my house I got my money back for remaining eight months.

Unresponsive
Placed a service call on May 12, 2009 to Nationwide Home Warranty to to have a Clothes Washer repaired (machine does not go into spin cycle). I am supposed to have a 24 hour turnaround time where the contractor is supposed to setup an appointment. Today is May 18, 2009 and Nationwide or the contractor have not contacted me, despite my many phone calls.

I would like others to know that I would not choose this company for a home warranty contract.

Does not honor home warranty contracts
Company does not honor its contracts. Cursory review of all the complaints listed on this forum tells the story. They take your money, make promises they don't keep. The only thing they keep is your money.

A Yahoo group has been formed to keep victims of this irreputable company updated.

You can join by going to www.yahoo.com then search under groups and look for Nationwide Home Warranty NOT.

Breach of Contract
The breached the terms of the contractual Home Warranty Agreement. When the claim was filed (10 months after premium had been received), they renegged and imposed conditions that were not part of the contract.

It is evident they are in the business of collecting premiums and not funding their liabilities. KEEP AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY

Unethical Business Practices
We were duped by these folks, and are fighting them! We bought a home warranty, and were reassured all would be covered. The A/C unit went out, we called, they sent a repairman, then refused the coverage, saying that it was pre-existing! Duh! They knew that when they sold us "coverage". Then, they said we could have it covered if we coughed up 4 years of maintenence reports. We bought the coverage because we didn't know the history of the unit, or anything else in the place we bought! They knew this when they gleefully took our money!

Unethical, Unprofessional, Deceptive, and Unreliable! Avoid them, but if it's too late, there are things that can be done!

Don't get angry, get TACTICAL!

File with the BBB in NY, File with the NY Atty. General's office, and with the State they committed the unethical business practice in!
Here are some helpful links for those of you wanting to do something about their ways!

If someone stole the amount of money you paid for your policy right out of your wallet, you'd call the cops!

They opted to refund our premium instead of make good on their policy. Still waiting on the 'check in the mail' (10 Days)...

Fraud and Scam
If you're looking for a home warranty contract, DO NOT use Nationwide Home Warranty. The business they operate fraudulently advertises to resolve claims quickly and easily, a total scam. They deny all claims over $100, based upon their request for maintenance records. If you have been vicitimized by this company please submit complaints to:

1. The Better Business Bureau (in your home state and in New York),
2. The New York Attorney General,
3. The Federal Trade Commission, and
4. The Department of Real Estate (in your home state)

3 months after buying my house our HVAC stopped working. They sent someone to fix it if the problem was under $100, but when they learned it would cost much more to replace my compressor, they requested maintenance records. I provided them with the receipts for furnace filter, testament that I cleaned the system out with a vacuum homse attachment when I replaced the filters, and a copy of the home inspection showing that the HVAC system was well maintained and in proper working order when the house was purchased only 3 months prior.

My problem is that I can not provide them with the maintenance records belonging to the previous owner because we have no way to contact them.

I repeat, if you have been victimized, please submit complaints to the Better Business Bureau (in your home state and in New York), the New York Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Department of Real Estate (in your home state).

non responsive-no coverage
Contacted company re: air conditioner failure. Tech came out and said my coil was leaking and I would be contacted in a couple of days. A month later-NOTHING. I had the unit charged out of my own pocket and am awaiting a response from Nationwide. Will be contacting BBB and AG next.

Won't Honor the Terms of the Contract
In February, 2009, I filed a claim to repair a refrigerator. I was told by the technician who they assigned that the compressor on my 6 year old Maytag refrigerator was bad. I spoke with Sasha Martinez (on 3/6 and 3/19) who told me that Nationwide denied the claim saying since I didn't have maintenance records showing I maintained the unit, the claim was closed. According to the Manufacturers users guide, all the maintenance and cleaning are things you can do yourself as part of normal care and cleaning. Nationwide told me that since I could not provide proof that I maintained the refrigerator according to the manufacturer’s requirements, the claim was closed. I provided information from the manufacturer about what they required but to no avail. When I asked to cancel they told me I couldn't cancel.

The contract states the following: "You are responsible for providing maintenance and cleaning on covered items as specified by the manufacturer to ensure continued coverage of such items. Nationwide reserves the right to request maintenance records". If the manufacturer's 'care and cleaning' suggestions are only related to basic cleaning and replacement of the water filter, I don't know what else they want me to provide. They are asking for receipts but how to you provide proof that you cleaned your refrigerator, I have not receipts for the water filters I purchased over the last 6 years, and no where in the contract does it state that I am to provide receipts from anyone. I asked that if I could provide receipts that I purchased a water filter (which has nothing to do with a bad compressor), would that be sufficient ‘proof’ and I was told no.

They also told me I have the option to pay for the repair myself ($700), submit the receipts to them and they would review and determine whether it should be reimbursed. Yea, right.

WHAT A BUNCH OF SHARKS!!!

Failure to honor warranty
In December of 2007 I purchased a home warranty from Nationwide Home Warranty (NHW). I did not file any claims. In October of 2008 I contacted NHW about extending the warranty another year because I had received an offer from another company. I decided to renew my warranty with NHW (N-108944) and paid in full for the year ($322.94). On December 28, 2008 I returned home after being gone a week and discovered the heating system was not working. On the morning of December 29, 2008 I call NHW at 1-888-500-2110 and reported the heating system was out. I was informed that NHW would contact a service technician. Mustang Plumbing Inc. called a few hours later and they would send a technician out that afternoon. About 2 pm a service technician (G.W.) arrived and inspected the unit. He determined that the unit needed to be replaced. He said that a good unit will last 20 years and this one in 28 years old. He called NHW and informed them of this and gave them an estimate for replacement, NHW says it was $825. He was informed that it was being put "under review" so he left. A few hours later I called NHW again to see what was being done because it was cold and I was without heat. I was informed that NHW needed the maintenance records and because I didn't have any (the filter is a permanent filter that I clean every other week) I would have to replace the system myself and submit the invoice for reimbursement. I called Mustang Plumbing back and asked them to come replace the system. The following day (12/30/08) they came back and I had them replace the entire system because the A/C was just as old as the heating system. The invoice was $3500 which I paid. On 12/31/08 I faxed the invoice to NHW. On 1/15/09 I called to check on the status of my claim and was advised by Casey Wiggins that NHW was only going to pay $100. NHW is supposed to pay up to up to $1500 per unit according to the contract. The contract does not say I must have maintenance records. I do my own maintenance and the technician said that the unit appeared well maintained and had lasted a lot longer than expected. He provided a statement that the problem was due to age and not lack of maintenance.
I filed a complaint with the BBB and now NHW is saying my claim is denied (so much for the $100). They told the BBB that if I had provided evidence that the unit was maintained that they would have worked with me. That is not true because I did provide a statement from the technician they sent out that it was maintained.

Renew Without Permission
Ntionwide Home Warranty decided to go ahead and just charge our credit card to renew our contract, although the contract stated otherwise (only if we paid month to month could they renew). When my husband called to inquire as to why this happened, the customer service rep was very rude and stated that in the contract they were allowed to do that. To his husband had to talk over her and read the contract to her and told her where he was reading from. At that point, she finally looked something up and stopped arguing with him. Then she told him he had to call back because no one from billing was there.

My husband called several other times and spoke with the billing department and was told over and over that it would be refunded within 7-14 days, and then the last couple times within 48 hours. It has been over a month since the first promise to refund our money. We have actually had to contact our credit card company and tell them of the fraudulent charges, and are trying to have this resolved by going through them. We will never trust them again!

I have read many other complaints of this same type of thing.
