I found a great deal on a new Volvo on line. I called the dealership to confirm the car was still available and that the price was correct. I made an appointment to go all the way to Queens, on the following evening, July 22nd 2010, to see the car and make a deal. I met with David Narine a sales rep, and we went through the ususal process, but he said that because it was such a good price he couldn't reduce it any more, and even after referring to the general manager Jeff, refused to budge on the price, so we agreed to the deal. Jeff actually told me it was an error, but they would honor the deal if it was done immeadiately, so I gave him my American Express card as a deposit and they started the paperwork. They told me to come back the next morning so they could prep the car and finalise paperwork. I asked about the Volvo 2.9% financing rate and JEFF the manager specifically said we won't do it with Volvo as WE CAN GET A BETTER RATE... This morning I went on public transport all the way from NJ to Jamaica Queens. I spoke with David Narine, the rep, and to Jeff the manager, all seemed ok. Went into the finance officer, Alex, to finalise, and the games began. First they gave me a list that seemed add at least $5, 000 to $6, 000 more than the agreed price. After trying to figure out what was what, I notice an overcharge of $1, 000 on the NJ sales tax, but perhaps that was a genuine error. I then noticed the finance rate was 5.69%, when I queried the almost 3% increase I was told this was the only company they dealt with for finance, after some peersistance on my part regarding the Volvo 2.9% rate, I then informed them that in that case I would pay the whole balance due with a bankers draft from Chase Bank and not take their loan. They refused to do this but said I could pay off the loan in full next week to the loan company, whatever that means. It was then that I noticed a line item of $3, 394.00. Now I was furious. When I queried this amount they said it was to 'register the car with Volvo'. I was purchasing a brand new vehicle, a 2011 model with 16 miles on the clock, what scam is this? Since when does one pay 10% of a cars value to register it with the manufacturer. I confronted the manager Jeff with all these scams, and he seemed unfazed by it all, and then to my surprise informed me that how else was he supposed to make money on my deal!!! I manged to get a copy of the computer print out with these numbers, as they never let you take any of the paperwork, and I also got a signed note from Jeff the manager clearly stating that the deal was broken due to the fact that Nemet Motors had changed the rates and the numbers. These people couldn't care less about any regulations, and as I've since seen on line they have done this to many other customers. Who knows how many more they got away with.
