New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Reviews

EXPLOITED MOM April 7, 2011
ABUSE/RETALIATION/EXPLOITATION
I’m Rodrice A. Vincent, and I was abused, harassed, defamed, and slandered by a New York City Housing Authority supervisor, and on or about July 31, 2009, she used her co-workers in official capacity to get me terminated from my provisional position. Based on the same false testimony which I was terminated, N.Y.C.H.A. also tried to prevent me from getting unemployment, a matter which was resolved in my favor. Currently I am being threatened with termination of my tenancy from the New York City Housing Authority; NYCHA is claiming “breach of rules and regulations” and “non-desirability.”

I’m a single mom of 3, I need help and don’t know who to turn to. I don’t owe any money in rent, and I am in good standing with the management in the NYCHA development where I live. I am an upstanding citizen, a college student, and an overall good human being-with several references to testify to that fact. I was a provisional employee, so the abuse that I endured was ignored. I have lived in my apartment for nearly seven years, and have never had a problem with anyone. I filed a complaint with the New York State Division of Human Rights, but the case was dismissed as my complaint was not under the jurisdiction of human rights law. I filed this case in August of 2009, and it was dismissed in October of 2010. These threats of eviction, and the accusations that led to them, are not only continued harassment from my initial termination, and the incidents which led to it, but also retaliation for filing a complaint with the State Division. P.S. Housing has offered me to make a settlement. If I withdraw my complaints, they will stop accusing me. Sounds more like exploitation, and admitting guilt on their part to me. They presented this settlement agreement to the New York State Division of Human Rights, it was only offered orally to me.

All I want is JUSTICE, and to be left alone. My problem is that I cant fight with a major entity such as NYCHA on my own. I have a substantial paper trail of evidence that can support my innocence. A blind man could see the abuse I’m enduring from a block away; if only he bothered to look… I truly need help. If you cant help me, would you please do me the service of passing this plea to ANYONE that you know who might be able to do so. I so humbly thank you in advance, if even you took the time to read this.

Sincerely,

Rodrice A. Vincent

Lack of Accessibility by Phone
I live in Harlem and the NYCHA office is located at 55 West 125th Street. I am a disabled individual that requires the use of a walker in order to get around and take care of my business. Through Section 8, I planned on relocating to the second floor in my building which has no elevator. I am currently living on the 4th floor. I cannot move anywhere else because of my credit. My credit is so bad that no one will take me even though I'm disabled. So, in order not to waste the Section 8, I opted to move to the second floor in my building. I went last Tuesday to take back my Section 8 papers and my Section8 housing assistant, Ms. Dejesus checked through my paperwork and found that the information she has on my building in the computer didn't match up with the information the landlord supplied on the W-9 forms regarding tax I.D., SS# and so forth. She printed out the information and told me to tell the landlord to copy the information from the printout onto the fresh W-9 forms that were supplied. Therefore, my package was not accepted until the information on the W-9 forms were corrected. I went the same day to the landlord and explained the problem in the discrepency of the information supplied on the W-9 forms and what Section 8 had in their computers. The landlord discovered what the problem was. It was explained to me that Central Harlem Mutual(The Landlord) has four different cubicles in regards to the buildings that they own. For example, my building is Central Harlem Mutual, HDFC, the buildings on Bradhurst Avenue is under Central Harlem Mutual, LP. The property manager offered to hold on to the W-9 forms and call the Section 8 housing assistant, Ms. Dejesus and explain the mix up and see if the W-9 forms can be sent via fax. The property manager had tried without success to contact Ms. Dejesus from last Wednesday until today. I myself even tried to contact Ms. Dejesus without success. I also tried to call Ms. Dejesus' supervisor, Ms. White and no one answered the phone. Now, I have to go to the landlord tomorrow and pick up the forms and hope that Section 8 will accept them with regards to the new information supplied on the forms. My landlord's office is located in the basement of 234 Bradhurst Avenue and there's no elevator, so, it's hell getting down and up the stairs again with the walker. The complaint is that the housing assistant, nor the supervisor is accessible like they should be via telephone. Is there someone within the housing authority I can submit this complaint to so that my case can forge ahead so that I can relocate to the second floor?

Repair problems
I live in Queensbridge houses with my 7 year old daughter and from 2002 until 2005 my roof leaked massive amount of water that has naturally compromised the integrity of the walls in the actual apt. My daughter and I have spent a great of time at our relatives homes especially on holidays because we were unable to stay at home like many people do during times like Christmas. Since NYCHA repaired the roof in the summer of 2005, I informed NYCHA that now that the underlining problem has been fixed when will they come and fixed the problems that resulted in the leakage? I was told that the peeling paint, gapping holes in the ceiling, rusty meld window panes and meldew tile will have to be called into the repair ctr an assessment would be made and assigned accordingly. A repair man came made the assessment and assigned to a repair division, this was in July of 2005. A painting inspector came to my home in March of 2006 to tell me that he will not be able to send anyone until June of that same year. I'd like help in getting these repairs done and NYCHA is not helping me with that at all. The district and project manager, and my housing manager don't seem to care about my repair problems of the problems that living in this conditions may cause to the health of me and my daughter........Please Help

Rude and unprofessional workers
My name is Wendy and I currently reside at Queensbridge Houses, every since 2003 I have had problems with my roof leaking. After complaining for over a year, and still nothing was done, I decided to take them to court ... and won. The problem is, is that although NYCHA knows that major repairs are needed in my apartment they still regard my repair request as being minimal at best. I personally think that supervision here is not adequate and pamper the needs of the employees instead of bringing Queensbridge up to the standards of a viable, healthy, respected community. For Example, most of the workers don't work and the ones who shows up at the apt for repairs don't have a positive regard for the person or family they serve, they are rude and unprofessional. I would like to see the federal government to come out here and see exactly where there money towards, but most of all I would like my apt to be inspected by this agency instead of NYCHA making the"RANDOM" selection of apt to be viewed.

Broken refrigerator
My refrigerator has been out of order since sunday july 9, 2006. I called the work ticket number 718-707-7771. I filed the complaint on monday july 7, 2006 the maintenace worker came by and told me the freezer had too much ice and to defrost it for 24 hours by leaving the freezer door open.

I had to take all of my meat to my neighbor and leave my milk, eggs etc in the frigerator. The maitenance worker said that the food in the frigerator would be ok as long as i left the door open. I have a five year old daughter. How can you keep a child from milk and things like that but i did it and waited the 24 hours. Unfortunately the refrigerator still didnt work.

On july 11, 2006 i called the work ticket center back which is suppose to be an emergency. I was told that someone would be there the next morining between 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. It is now 2:07 pm and no one has showed i called the work ticket program and they stated that i had to now wait 24 hours before someone will come out. It is a hot and humid day i cannot give my daughter cold water, ice or anything else.

My name is Michelle

I live in public housing. My address is jewel ave, flushing ny. The work ticket number is 0257sss, it was called in on 7/11/06 at 4:47 pm. Is there someone or agency you can refer me too? I know if i go another day like this all the food i have left will go bad. Can you help?
