My Nextar Q4-01 repeatedly gives me errors in the middle of my trip, telling me that the map card is not present. Also, it does not recognize many of the addresses that I input. Both of these issues may be solved with map updates. I have had this unit for 12 months... and still no updates. I have read many other complaints about this company that are aligned with my issues. I registered my product, and e-mailed Nextar Customer Support [please find my correspondence, and their response below].
I am upset because their solution was to pay $69.99 for an updated map card. I am using the map card that was included with the product. I have already purchased the product! Garmin, TomTom and other GPS units offer free firmware updates and map updates. Why should Nextar customers be forced into purchasing these necessary updates? The functionality of the unit compromised without this data, and yet we have to pay again for something that may or may not address the issue.
