I purchased a Mahogany double door entranceway from Nicksbuilding.com for $8000.00. Two years later the door is falling apart at the seams. I have never seen an exterior door perform so poorly in my life. I understand that wood doors will show wear and tear and that you run the risk of expansion and contraction with a natural wood product but a sheet of CDX plywood lying in my backyard for 2 years is holding up better than Nicks doors.
I called their customer service department and was informed that the door is out of warranty and there is nothing that they can do to help me. Their warranty last only a single year on the doors but they never provided any warranty paperwork. My first mistake was assuming that there was a standard door warranty with their products. My second mistake was purchasing from a company that does not have any customer feedback on their website.
I was told that the door failed because I have Pella storm doors in front of them. When I informed the customer service department that the storm doors were just installed a few months ago, they changed their tune and said it must be due to a crack in the finish which resulted in moisture penetrating the door and I should have resealed the doors. First of all, any new door finish should not fail within the first 2 years. Secondly, I would have no problem repairing a substandard finish but I’m not going to do it in the middle of a Chicago winter when the temperatures are below freezing.
Every single seam in both doors is failing. The engineering of these doors is very poor. I advise anyone considering Nicksbuilding.com for doors to spend the few extra dollars and get your doors from a reliable source or in two years you may also have $80000 worth of firewood.
