I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix Camera at Costco, after minimal use (four months, maybe 40 photos) the camera began operating in a nonfunctional state and displaying a status message "LENS ERROR". I have had other Nikon products and been impressed with durability and quality of the units. Because of this I had never had the "pleasure" of interacting with their customer support.
I don't understand the logic a company distributes a defective unit and they expect the customer to pay to ship the product to have it fixed?! When I told the tech support person I thought this was not appropriate he told me that he was sorry but that was the policy, I ask to talk to someone else who could override the policy and he told me "we don't have the number for them". I said you are Nikon right? I called Nikon. He said thank you and ended the call, I held for the customer service survey that I had been informed about prior to being connected, but after a quick clickity click the line went dead.
I hope some will avoid this experience look towards another brand their are several available all of similar quality. I also intend to inform Costco about my experience.
Thanks for reading.
