False Advertising of Prizes
I won entry to the 2011 MLB Opening Day Tourney Championship in February 2011. The Championship took place on March 16, 2011 and consisted of 1506 total players. The prize is 1 pair of box seats to your home team on opening day, and if they go to the world series you also get a pair of tickets for a WS game. I got lucky and won the tourney which was my first ever non-cash prize win on NOLP. Opening day was on 3/31/11. I was told via e-mail that the tickets would arrive on 3/30/11. Now mind you I live in Las Vegas and Dodger stadium is over 400 miles away, and sold out so traffic would be horrific, yet they decide the tickets should arrive day before game as if I could just walk down the street to the stadium. The tickets did not arrive on 3/30/11, they arrived on 3/31/11 @ 2:30 pm via FedEx. Game time is 5:05 pm, just 2 1/2 hours away and it will take me at least 4 1/2-5 hours to get there if I left right then and there. All Stan at NLOP could say was "our apologies, hope you enjoy the game". The fact is that NLOP is advertising prizes they do not have in possession, nor is there any guarantee that you will even get the prize. When I got my tickets it shows right on the paper that they were purchased on 3/30/11 from Stub Hub. So in actuality their third party vendor Totally Tickets did not even have the advertised prize on hand to pay out, they had to buy them and get them to me just hours before game time. All prizes are fulfilled by a third party such as UFC, Totally Tickets, etc. What happens if they were out of a prize you won and could not fill the payout? I'm sure they would substitute a prize, and I can also guarantee it would not be of the same value as the prize that was advertised. Does this sound like a good way to do business? It takes about 60 days to get your cash prizes and that is even way too long. My feeling is that if they are going to have tournaments with prizes then they should also have the prizes in their possession to pay out before they even advertise the tourney. I have gotten all my cash prizes up until now, but the MLB tickets were of no use and they have not even offered to make it right. I doubt the Dodger will make the WS this year but I have a feeling the tickets would not show up at all.
