Fraudulant claim
I received a letter from Northland today stating that I owed $763.92 to Citibank and that they would settle for $229.20. I have never had a Citibank card or account in my life. I called Northland and they were trying to get me to give them all sorts of personal information to confirm my account or they said they couldn't discuss it with me. I didn't give them anything. I told the rep I spoke with to take my name out of their system or I would contact a lawyer and file charges. He reluctantly said he would but tried to use the scare tactic that it stay on my credit report...fat chance of that since the debt doesn't exist.

If this was a real claim then he wouldn't have been so quick to agree to stop sending me letters. Please don't fall for this scam.

Fraudalent account number provided
I was contacted via mail by Northland Group Inc. offering me a settlement to pay off a credit card(mastercard)I previously had with Capital One. I was under the understanding I was paying on that account. I even requested a letter confirming my accont was paid. When I reviewed my credit report I notice that Capital One had sold the account to a different collection agency called Portfolio Recovery Associates and the account number did not match the account number Northland Group Inc. provided me. I have never opened another account with Capital One. I was ripped off my Northland Group Inc. I have tried numerous times to contact Northland Group Inc. and they refused to help me. I was hunged up several times. I also contacted Capital One and they said that account number that Northland Group provided never existed. Please help. Don't know what to do!!

Double charging on paid accounts
Northland was collecting a debt that I had with capitol one on two credit cards.I paid them off in 2004 and they sent me a letter of satisfaction. In April of 2008 they sent me a bill for the exact same debt.I faxed them a copy of the satisfaction letter, and I thought that would be the end of it.Then they sent me another collection letter September of 2008.I called them and they replied that I only paid off only one of the credit cards. Both cards totalled $700.00, the collection was $1750.00, which I paid. Now they are trying to charge me again. Can they really get away with this. What can I do about it?

Annoying Phone Calls
Calls to my home phone from reps of this company for a person who does not live at this address. Caller ids as from the Northland Group, but does refuses to say what the call is about or what the company does.

I called the number listed on the website and spoke to a representative who agreed to remove my number from their list, but the rep refused to disclose what their business entails.

settlement offer
I have received settlement letter's from Northland Group Inc. and when i was prepared to look into this account, the customer service representative was rude and was very much a bully. In the letter it says"the office will obtain verification of the debt or copy of judgement and mail you a copy". I asked for proof of the original account and the representative said he could not provide that proof to me and that it was a debt that must be paid. I refuse to pay a debt that I believe is a fruad. This company did not provide any proof nor even tried to offer me any information on the original account. They continue to send me payment letters threatening further collection if I refuse to pay. This company is a scam and I refuse to do business with any company that cannot show me proof of a debt that they say I owe.

Been ripped off
I was ripped off my Northland Group Inc. I was contacted via mail by this company offering me a settlement to pay off a credit card account with Capital One. I honestly believed I was paying off that account. I took there offer and made payment arrangements. After paying off the account I asked them for a letter confirming my account was paid off. When I received such letter I was surprised to see that the Original Creditor was not Capital One but a company named MCB with a phony account number. I reviewed my credit report and I was surprised to notice that I still had the outstanding balance with Capital One and it was purchased by a different lender not Northland Group Inc. I attempted to dispute this matter with Northland Group Inc. and they refused to help me. The representative who answered could not provide me with a straight answer. He terminated my call. I don't know what to do. I was ripped off from my money. Help please. They need to be held responsible for stealing money from honest people.

no follow through
I received a collection letter about a Macy's card from Northland Group Inc. with an option to pay in full ($359.00) and Macy's will issue a new card to me. I set it up for payments of $50/month but they only took 5 payments and closed my account for no apparent reason. Now Macy's is still on my credit report as unpaid and I can't get the card issued. Northland Group no longer has access to my account. I was told to wait untill the next collection agency picks it up.

Upaid Account Balance
These "PEOPLE" find it necessary to mail folks and express that you owe Money to an account that DOES NOT EXIST and as with the other individuals whom have submitted Complaints about these"PEOPLE" they have no background information regarding the Debt for which they are trying to collect, I contacted Capitol One regarding the supposed debt that I owed, and they have no record of me EVER having an account with them IMAGINE THAT, So what I recommend is that if you do receive a letter of payment due to these "PEOPLE" use it as a fire starter that will be a much more beneficial use. Thank you

harassing my elderly mother for my unpaid account.
Calling my mother and insulting her for not giving information about me. This is for a credit card account in default. I attempted a settlement after a loss of income. Chase and Citibank were not interested in a settlement. Now my 75 year old mother who struggles with mental health issues is the target of such companies. If they would have worked with me, a settlement could have happened.
