Rude & Harrassing
I received a call just now from the Northland Group and they asked to speak with my husband who is not available. Before I could even ask who was calling and if I could take a message they hung up on me. I decided to call back the number on the caller ID. When the representative came on the line I explained that someone had just called my house looking for my husband and then hung up when I told them he wasn't here. I asked who they were and what it was in reference to and was told very rudely that it was personal business for my husband and none of my business!! When he told me to just have my husband call them back I told him that wouldn't be possible as my husband was not in the country at the moment, he then asked me where he was and when he was coming back, and when I told him that I wasn't sure he started yelling before I could say another word that how could I not know where he is and when he was coming back, he never was giving me the chance to tell him that my mother-in-law was very ill in Bermuda and that he had to take a leave of absence to go and be with her!! He was so rude and disrespectful and just kept yelling that I should just have him call them back. This just got me so aggrevated because he wouldn't even give me the slightest idea what this call was for. I even tried saying that if it was in reference to some debt that he should tell me at least what company the debt was with so when I spoke to my husband I could pass on the message to him and perhaps I would be able to take care of it for him in his absence. But no...he just kept yelling telling me to have my husband call them and I told him no way was I going to have my husband call them from Bermuda while he is attending to his mother. I then proceeded to tell him as a matter of fact don't bother calling back the house again...if they have something to say put it in writing!! But he continued on like a child telling me they would just keep on calling and calling. What kind of company trains their employees to act like ignorant, beligerent children. How can they possibly think that anyone would consider doing any kind of business with them and send them any money at all. From some of the other complaints I've read they buy old debts and try to collect on them after adding their own fees...well I've got news for them we've only been in the country for 10 years and the only credit card we ever had was a secured credit card which we had opened to build up our credit so we could buy our home and after we closed on our house we closed the account and got back the $500 we opened it with!! I guess the next time they call it will be me hanging up on them instead!

Harassing/Misleading Phone CAll
Misleading and harassing phone call by person who didnt ask or identify himself, company or what he was calling about. Only after I asked if the call was being recorded, which he said yes, and dint indicate it when he called, did he identify himself. He then identified himself as Brian from the Northland Group, refused to tell me what he was calling about and said if i read my mail I should know what it was.

harrassing phone call
I received a phone call from a man at Northland Group (877-867-3787) on 06/18/09 around 8pm.
He asked for for my name Susan Parker then he asked is this the Susan born(mention a birthdate). I asked him what is this about, he wouldn't say just said it was a personal matter.
Then he kept mentioning the birthdate. Since he wouldn't tell me why he was calling, I told him I don't have time for games then I hung up.
Regards,
Susan Parker

Fraud and cheating
I received a suspicious collections letter from NGI in the mail this week. It was addressed to me under a former married name that I haven't used in over 18 years! I did not live at this address 18 years ago, either. The store account credit card they say is past due in the amount of $892.07 was charged off in a bankruptcy in 1990! That's almost TWO DECADES AGO!! When I looked up the company listed as their 'client', Asset Acceptance, Llc, I found that they are a major purchaser of charged off debts and then they go and try to collect them for themselves. It can be very deceiving, and as one consumer who filed a ripoff report here says, it can cause you to second-guess yourself.
The letter lists the actual credit card account number and company it was held with, thereby making the letter look legitimate. Is this even legal?? Why are companies allowed to 'purchase' this kind of information? Can they be stopped?!?! Personally, I know I will seek all possible remedies to stop them from harassing me.

Collection scam!
Sent a collection letter claiming that I owed money for an outstanding debt that was paid off over ten years ago. This is the second attempt by a fraudulent collection agency to collect monies on a line of credit opened with Zales over ten years ago that went to collections but was paid off. There is no record of it on my credit record yet they still try to harass people into paying out money for fear that it will affect their credit score. Don't give these fraudsters your money you are being scammed.

Non-stop harassment from Northland Group
These incompetent wankers have been harassing me and my family (they're calling my parents house, where I'm staying temporarily) for the past two weeks. After hanging up on them multiple times without knowing who they were or why they were calling, I finally stayed on the line long enough to find out the purpose of their call. The guy called, asked for me, and I hung up after he identified himself as being from the Northland Group. As I'd never heard of such a company, I figured he was trying to sell me something. He called back immediately and declared that hanging up on him is pointless because he'll just keep calling back. He then went on to say that he was calling in regards to my delinquent Capital One credit card. I explained that I don't have a credit card now and have never had one in the past and that I don't know what he's talking about. He said that either someone could have committed identity theft against me, but that because I keep hanging up on him, it leads him to believe that I do know what he's talking about and simply trying to avoid the issue. I said "So, you're going to call me at home and insist that I have an overdue account with these people, then accuse me of lying about it? That's just fantastic. Do you treat everyone you talk to like this"? He replied with "Yes, we do, because you aren't customers. You're irresponsible, low-life debtors who think they can get away with not paying your bills". I explained that I would not be putting up with his abuse anymore and he threatened to mark me down as 'refusal to pay'. I simply said "Do what you have to do, and stop calling me", then hung up.
Later the same night (9:450 PM!!), a woman called from NG and asked for me; I told her she had the wrong number. She said "Well, that's goofy. My notes show that we talked to her at this number earlier today". I told her that her notes must be incorrect, because she had the wrong number. She said "Give it up, I know you're lying. Let me talk to Rachel NOW". I hung up.
They call every single day, usually more than three times, usually shouting, swearing, and making all kinds of threats. I don't know how they got my information or why they've started calling now OR why the bloody hell they think I have a credit card when I've never even APPLIED for one! I've been living in the UK for two years! I'm only here temporarily to sort out the last of my immigration stuff.
I've filed complaints with the FTC as well as the BBB, but I know that won't stop them from calling. Is there any way to get my parents' number taken off their list?
