Very Bad Customer Service
January 8, 2011, I went online looking for a file cabinet. I saw one at Office Depot and decided to order 5 of these for my small business. I added them to my cart and when I proceeded to checkout, the pricing per cabinet was literally through the roof. I called their customer service department and told them there was a price discrepancy on their website. The customer service girl didn't speak very good English and I had a hard time understanding her. I should have asked to speak to someone who could speak fluent English but thought I'd give her the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, she checked out the website and said she could not see any pricing discrepancy, and then asked me for the url address of the webpage I was on. I gave that to her and she put me on hold for quite a long time. She came back and told me again that there wasn't any pricing discrepancy that she could see. I told her that I had done a print screen of the webpage I was on and would like to email it to her so she could see first hand what I was talking about since there was a huge price difference. She put me on hold again for a long time and said she spoke to her manager and that I should email the print screen page to a particular email address. I couldn't understand her and asked her to repeat the address, she did, and I wrote each letter down. I then read it back to her [email protected], and she said this was correct. I said okay then I am going to email this right now and that I expected someone to contact me asap.
She said she would call me as soon as she received the email. After I sent it, I hung around the house for two hours and no one called. I then called customer service again and spoke to a different girl, with a similar accent as the first one, and when she accessed my account, she told me there was no record of my call anywhere. I was pretty upset and asked her if she was sure there wasn't anything and she said yes. I then proceeded to explain everything to her and even gave her this bogus email address. She suggested I send another email to that address, which I did after we hung up. Before hanging up she told me that it is their policy to contact the customer within 2 hours of their call. I said it was now 7pm and I've been waiting 3 hours now. She also told me they don't have supervisors after hours and that there is no way any customer service person at O.D. could call me because they have no way of making outgoing calls. So, anyway, I then emailed that bogus address again, and realized that the first one I sent was sent back to me as being undeliverable! I just about went through the ceiling. Here I had that girl repeat it to me and then I repeated it back to her and it wasn't correct. Plus, she said she would wait for my email - and since it never arrived, why didn't she contact me (she had my email address) and say she still hadn't rec'd my email? I went to the Office Depot website and entered a complaint telling what happened and the lack of respect that was shown to me by their company. That was on Friday. Today is Monday and I have not heard back from ANYONE!!! Here I'm trying to purchase 5 file cabinets and this is the treatment I receive? BAD NEWS!!! I'm sure it's because the file cabinets were a lower price and somebody in their technology department goofed up and they didn't want to sell me the cabinets at that cheaper price! So, here it is Monday evening and I contacted our local OD store and got the number to the corporate headquarters in Florida. I called twice and both times I was disconnected. I called the store manager back and asked him to call that number, and I waited about 20 minutes, then he got back to me to tell me that it's after hours (Eastern standard time) and the operator is gone for the day! Imagine that...a corporate headquarters office and they don't even have a recording to tell people what their business hours are and that they are closed and the person should call back tomorrow. NOPE, you just get disconnected! Very Bad Customer Service to say the least. I'm not finished yet. I wanted to post this complaint so others can see it and beware of the dealings that go on behind closed doors at Office Depot. Tomorrow I will be calling that Corporate Office, on my dime since they don't have a toll-free number (I'm not surprised) and I'll take it a step further if I don't get any satisfaction. If this was done to me, than I know it's been done to others before. This lack of quality customer service didn't happen over one transaction! I learned one thing, though, if I can't understand the customer service representative, no matter what business I'm calling, I won't feel bad about asking for someone who speaks my language, English.
