Office Depot Reviews

Poor quality product!
Viking Office Products was tops in office supplies. Then they were bought out by Office Depot and it has been downhill from there. I've had numerous problems with ordering products from this company, the latest one being today when I opened two packages of replacement ink #56 for an HP computer printer. Both were remanufacture ink cartridges having the Office Depot label. Both were very defective and wouldn't print properly. It's too late to even ask for a refund since the ink was ordered a couple of months ago (I only open cartridges when I need them). From now on I'm doing a quality check on all cartridges ordered and I'll never order from Office Depot again!

Refusal to honor return policy
I made a computer notebook purchase on July 15, 2007. I was told at that time that I would have fourteen days to bring it back. I attempted to return it on the 21st of July. I paid with an electronic check - the same as cash and I expected to receive cash back. I was told that I would have to leave the computer and give them my name and phone number so the manager could "investigate" my purchase when he came in on Monday. This is OUTRAGEOUS. First Mr. Doyle said that he didn't have the money to give me and then he changed his story when I pressed him about his policy. How can cash be returned if the policy is to NOT KEEP CASH in the store to cover returns? I asked Mr. Doyle for an 800-number for customer complaints and he said there wasn't one. He then gave me the corporate "561-438-4800" number knowing full well that no one would be there to solve my issue in a timely manner (NOW). Let me state that I would have been willing to accept a check handed to me at that moment as I told Mr. Beason when I contacted him. I had gotten Mr. Beason's name from Mr. Doyle but he refused to give me a contact number. I looked it up in the phone book. By the way, Mr. Beason was upset because I had called him at home on his "day off" that he was spending with his family. I told him that as a manager he should know that he IS A MANAGER 24/7. I explained the purchase to Mr. Beason and told him that Mr. Doyle first told me that he didn't have the money and then he changed his story to the he only had "ones." Mr. Beason said that he would not give all of his store's money out on one return and that was what he had told Mr. Doyle. I told Mr. Beason that when I had questioned Mr. Doyle again about the "800" number he called the police on me. Mr. Beason said that he had told Mr. Doyle to call the police if I was loud and causing a scene and would not leave the store. I told Mr. Beason the Mr. Doyle NEVER ASKED ME TO LEAVE THE STORE. As for my being loud, I ALWAYS talk loudly because I have a Hearing Disability.

What I want to know is - Is this the way you treat all of your customers, or just those customers with Disabilities? By the way, I never knew (when I was in the store) that Mr. Beason had told Mr. Doyle to call the police. As far as I knew, he called the police because I EXPECTED an agent of Office Depot to HONOR the return policy. I made the purchase with an electronic check that was IMMEDIATELY run through my account. Mr. Beason said "oh no" you have to wait ten days for a refund for a purchase by check. So I asked him, "If I come in after ten days will I get cash back?" He stated, "If I have the money." Store policy STATES CASH REFUND. Is this a deceptive business practice? Or, is the problem simply a store manager who could not care less about customer service?

By the way, I purchased my desk top computer from the Lake Charles Office Depot. I have, in the past, made numerous purchases there. I want to know with whom to speak AT CORPORATE. Please do not give me an "800" number. I want the corporate extension, please. I feel that my time has been wasted talking to customer service in the Philippines. They, by the way, also lied to me. I asked to speak to an upper level manager and I was told that they were all in a "closed door meeting." When I asked her where she was located she finally told me Manila, Philippines. So I asked her, "Just what manager, at your location, do you think could solve this issue NOW. She said there was no one and ALSO gave me the Corporate number that sends you in circles. After sending you through the menu for customer complaints, the suggestion given is to call the store manager if there is a problem. I did that. It seems that store policy is to offer a service that does not exist (a cash return that is not available because no cash is kept in the store.

Misrepresentation
On July 24, 2006, I purchased a new HP desktop computer and printer from Office Depot, 910 El Monte Ave., Mt. View, California for $1800. Included in that total was $120 for Office Depot's "Performance Protection Plan" that promised "Day One Product Repair Coverage" with "100% Day One Coverage for All Parts and Labor" with "on-site service for your computer system." On May 22, 2007, my computer crashed. When I called the Mt. View store to request "on-site service" on "day one", I was told that I must call Office Depot's Customer Care Center. When I called that number, I was told all they could do was put me through directly to HP. When I said I had the Performance Protection Plan and I wanted on-site service, I was told that the terms and conditions of that plan (not included in the leaflet that is given at the time of purchase) stated that the plan did not go into effect until after the manufacturer's warranty period had expired. I then took my computer into the Mt. View store where I purchased it and asked them to repair it and call me when they were ready to come out and reinstall it. The manager, "Reed" called me the next day and told me to come and pick it up because they had "no one available" to do "on-site service." Obviously, the "Performance Protection Plan" is simply an expensive add-on to computer systems that Office Depot has no intention whatsoever of honoring. I was not given anything that is promised in the explanatory "leaflet" given at the time of purchase and I feel that Office Depot is perpetrating a fraud on unsuspecting consumers by selling a Performance Protection Plan that does not offer anything that it promises. It is precisely this type of fraud that would make an excellent class action. I demanded, and did not receive, my $120 back.

The worst experience with retail ever!
I have never encountered so much frustration, so many dead ends and lack of help, and so many lies as when dealing with Office Depot.

I purchased a laptop that I needed to return within the 14 day return policy. They refused and the store manager then lied to me about store policy on refunds. So I went to another Office Depot store and they even said that manager lied to me! When I returned another product that also had the stores Protection Program, they did not refund me what I paid in taxes. So when trying to take this complaint to their corporate office, I was on hold for an hour and a half and nobody ever came back to me. It doesn't end there, but nobody would want to read the book of problems that I've had over the past week. Ive never been treated so poorly. I've been hung up on, accused of not being an informed consumer, lied to, scammed- and as of yet nobody in corporate cares. Do yourself a favor and don't buy your expensive purchases from Office Depot- it's not worth the hassle if you ever need help.

Consumers doesn't matter to them
Small Business drafting firm. We order all of our office supplies from Viking. Viking has been bought out by Office Depot. I called to make my usuall order yesterday and I believe the call was sent overseas or else everyone of the operators could not speak good English. I was very frustrated when ordering because I couldn't understand the operator and when I asked that she speak slower so I could make and attempt to understand she became very angry. I hung up. I called them back in a attempt to talk to a supervisor. The operator would not let me talk to someone higher than her because she wanted to know what my complaint was. I told her and she said I couldn't talk to anyone. I hung up. I called back again. After going through this again I finally convinenced the operator to get a supervisor. I have know idea if I talked to a supervisor. This person was harder to understand than the operator's. I do not believe for one minute that this will go to corporate and the problem fixed like this so called supervisor said. I do know that I will not spend another cent with Office Depot. Come on!!!!! If Office Depot wants to sell America office supplies than I think it's time that they wake up and hire operators who can speak English, or attempt to be professional and knowledgable about the product they sell. I ordered from Viking for 10 years and have always had very good operators. They knew the products, were very professional and always seemed to care. Since Office Depot has taken over they have seemed to forget the consumers that buy from them. I guess it doesn't matter to them. Angry in Kansas and NO longer and Office Depot customer.

Rebate Scam
Office Depot Rebates: I bought a combined offer for a Compaq notebook and HP printer that offered $250 in rebates. The offer was for $150 from Office Depot, $70 from HP on the notebook and $30 from HP on the combined purchase. The sale was on 5/2/06.

I immediately complied with all aspects of the rebate offers and promptly mailed the three envelopes. Please note that I was extra cautious to comply with every requirement of the offers since I had heard that they would deny for the slightest reason. I carefully cut out the UPC's , filled in the forms properly, circled the sales information from the receipt, etc and mailed to the different addresses.

Office Depot waited about a month then denied my submittal based on the following: 'Limit one rebate per household/business' Of course this was my first and only rebate request ever to Office Depot. When I called the number I was told that it was an error on their part and that my check would be forthcoming.. Simply a lie, they have never mailed the check. These people are simply put CROOKS.

At the same time my requests to HP were being denied because I did not include the serial number which is a baldfaced lie since I filled in the blank with the S/N and the UPC was attached which also had the serial number.

My advice: do not ever buy a product from these companies that has a rebate offer, they will cheat you!!
