Returning Merchandise
I have been a Office Depot customer for a number of years. Here in McAllen there is a choice of stores such as Best Buy, Wal Mat, Target, and other office supplies stores but I had made my choice to be Office Depot.
I purchased several ink cartriges at the Office Depot on 10th street here in McAllen. My printer went out and I was left with one ink cartirge and had no need for it. By this time I no longer had the receipt but I thought I could get credit for it and purchse something else in the near future. I was told by the cashier and the so called manager that without the receipt I would not be able to return it. I asked that all I wanted was a credit and did not need a monetary exchange. They insisted that the policy was the same and a receipt was still needed. All the stores mentioned above and others not mentioned have no problem issuing a credit in lieu of money returned when there is no receipt. What makes Office Depot so different from the other businesses in this respect. In my opinion Office Depot needs to change their policy and get off their high horse and treat customers better. Like I said here in McAllen we have a choice as to what stores we want to make our purchases at so unless customers are breaking down your doors to get in I would give this policy a second thought. I had no use for the ink cartrige so I left it at your store and told your manager to keep it. I hope you can resell it and make a profit on it as you probably need it.

THANK YOU FOR NOTHING
A DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER

Poor service
Sent my Toshiba laptop off to be repaired under extended warranty. Apparently the person doing the repairs cracked the case while opening it. I noticed it when the computer was returned - just a hairline crack but a crack nonetheless. Office Depot has refused to accept responsibility and tells me the warranty does not cover scratches or cracks. Even though the crack was caused by the repair company they contracted to do the repairs.

The Office Depot customer service department, which has been extremely slow to respond to my complaints, and has not denied that the crack was caused when the case was opened, has offered to send me a $100 gift card which I don't think is sufficient considering I paid over $800 for the computer and another $300 for the extended warranty.

Extremely rude manager
On 7/07/08 I purchased an ink cartridge using a Office Depot gift card. After I got back to my office I realized I had purchased the wrong cartridge. I returned to the store the following morning with the cartridge and receipt. The very nice cashier did the transaction but when she scanned the gift card it said I had a balance of $00.00. The original receipt clearly stated I had a balance of $46.23. She called for the manager named Chris. He came to the register and tried to scan the card again and ended up with the same results. The cashier Kathy pointed out to him the balance reflected on the original receipt. He then very rudely said that I could have come back into the store and purchased more items that ran my gift card balance to zero and was being deceitful and brought an invalid receipt. He then said he couldn't do anything about it except call the corporate office. He did not offer to do this at all. Meanwhile I'm standing there waiting for a resolution to the problem and am very offended by him calling me a liar and a potential thief. I had to ask him to call the corporate office by which he rudely stated would be later when he had time. What a way to treat a customer Office Depot! I lodged a complaint with the corporate office myself. They asked me to fax them a copy of my receipt and the back of the gift card. I did so immediately. However after reading some of the posts here I do not expect the corporate office to resolve this issue. Office Depot of Evansville, IN west-side location has forever lost my business and the business of the other company I work for.

They do not honour extended warranties
Bought a Lenovo tablet in 2005 and bought the 3 year extended warranty. The sales associate who sold it to me said this is a great warranty. "Even if you drop it or accidentally run over it with your car, we'll replace it if we can’t repair it". Well, last week it started acting up where it was turning on slowly and then wouldn’t turn on at all. They sent me a box and I sent it to be repaired. It was returned 3 weeks later UNREPAIRED. They claim the mother board appeared to have moisture damage- yeah right! Darn warranty cost me an extra $300 and it is a rip off. Don't let them con you on the extended warranty. Better yet, buy your computer elsewhere is my recommendation.

Poor service
I went to the Office Depot at 340 Kamakee Street, Honolulu, Hawaii to make an enlargement of a photo. The Assistant Manager "Ray" (I'm assuming of the copy department) was doing this while eating a handful of nuts from one hand!! He tells me that he is having difficulty adjusting the photo. Because I want to frame it, I then tell him "Print it at 16x20 on the 18x24 paper." The 18 x 24 paper is on special with a coupon for $9.99. The previous time I went there, I spoke to a salesperson also in the department who told me it would take 2 days to do this enlargement depending on how many orders would be in front of mines. So he prints out the picture, it comes out RED. The colours are unacceptable and there is little ink droplets left on it. The printout actually fell on the ground because he was not there at it (he decided to help another customer when the printout is 2 feet behind of him...). They print out another picture. It also falls to the ground. A lady picks it up and wipes her hand on it streaking the picture. I point it out to her and she says it is the printer. My father points out to her that she did it while she dusted off the photo on the ground. She makes another print out and is there at the printer so it does not fall to the ground. She rings me up for about $20 and I inform her of the coupon I have from the Office Depot weekly advertisement. She says since it is only a 16 x 20 she cannot give me that price. I tell her the guy behind her told me it would be fine and her reply is "I AM THE MANAGER." She wants to charge me for the other two copies that fell on the ground and was flawed. She tells me several times she cannot give me the price because of my "attitude." I did not curse at her. I did not make a scene. I just merely was telling her that she should honour the price and that the other two copies were flawed. She tells me that she will give me the price "just this once." What makes me furious is that she knew the enlargement was for a funeral. I told her what it was for when she asked me if it was for a party when the first printout. This lack of professionalism combined with a lack of interest in serving the customer compels me to write of this complaint.

Rebate Scam
I purchased a HP Desktop Computer Package deal from Office Depot with a $200.00 rebate. I sent all of the proper rebate information to a Waco, Texas Rebate Center. Hewlett Packard responded with their $50.00 portion of the rebate within 45 days. This indicated to me that the Waco Center had all of the proper rebate information from me but I heard nothing from the Office Depot rebate. They say give them 60 to 90 days to respond but something told me that there was a problem when I contacted their rebate site and punched in my information and it said they had no information concerning my rebate. I then contacted the store and they had me bring all of the original purchase and rebate receipts to the store where they faxed the rebate center. No response. I finally sent a second email to the rebate center concerning this matter because they never responded to the first inquiry. They finally responded that they had no record of my purchase and I had to resend copies of all of the original information to their center. Would you have any confidence that the 3rd time would get any response? I do not. This is a fiasco of monumental proportions. I refused to file the information the third time and told them to do their job. If I get no satisfaction I will be back at the store looking for a full refund or look for other recourse.

Scamming liars
On 12-07 we bought 8 (7 same models and 1 different model) Toshiba Laptops ($600 ea) with guaranteed $150 rebate per computer. The sales reps in the Spokane WA. stores (1 on Division Str. and another on 3rd Ave.) where we bought the 8 laptops all promised the rebates were per qualifying purchase and would get them in 90 days max. We mailed the rebates rt. away. By 2-08 we had received only 2 rebates. I went into the store on 3rd. ave. on 2/15/08 and after 1.5 hours! Got the saleslady to speak to the manager at the rebate ctr., Jeff, who stated we would get the 6 remaining ones in 3 wks. Now almost 5 (FIVE) months later, only 1 rebate arrived and I have written many many emails to the rebate ctr. but no intelligent response, just stupid employees who don't know anything or care. The store manager on 3rd. ave. in Spokane also claims to have called them but I have spoken to him several times and been into the store 3 xs, and still nothing, just lies and promises. The rebate ctr. kept denying us the rebates the last 3.5 months saying that the receipts were 1 per qualifying household! Just like that they change the legal description of the document, our receipt, to be whatever they want. This store needs to be to have a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against it and be fined $$$$$millions for false advertising, fraud, misleading, corruption, cheating customers, etc... And be dissolved! What a BIG SCAM. DON'T SHOP HERE EVER. WE ALL WON'T BE.

Bad experience
May 2006 I bought an HP laptop from Office Depot in Washington, NC. While selecting the computer I needed, I was recommended to purchase the 2 year extended warranty. The exact words said to me were "If you drop it, run over it with your car or whatever, bring it back in and you will get a brand new computer of equal or more value". So, I bought it. I've always had exceptional service with Dell on extended warranties so I thought it would be a good insurance policy. Two weeks ago, I turn it on and get a very "vague" picture on the monitor. I called the warranty service, was sent a box for return and got it back today-unprepared. I was told there was moisture in the unit and my warranty was void. Now before I sent it, I plugged in an external monitor with great success, backed up my data and sent the unit in. I get it back with the news that it had been water damaged and it won't even come on now. I've been round and round with Office Depot's customer service and they basically told me to F-Off. They said the mother board had been soaked with coffee or Coke and I had no recourse. How was it that it worked two weeks ago with an external monitor and now it won't come on? The manager at the Office Depot I bought it from (200 miles away) says he will do everything he can to help me but according to Office Depot, I'm ***. I want to put the word out that OD will NOT stand behind there extended warranties.

Their rebates are scams
I purchased a HP computer because they had a $150.00 advertised with it, in
addition if you purchased the HP printer you get an additional $70 rebate
for the printer. So I purchased both and mailed in both rebates. I waited a
couple of months and called and I was told that they never received the
rebate but I can fax it in so I did. I called to make sure they got my fax
and I was told that it takes 14 days to see if they got my fax to call back
in 14 days. So I called back after 14 days and they said to call back in a
couple of more days. So I did and I was told they never got my fax to refax it
and they can let me know in 7 days if they got my fax. So I sent it again.
Now their story is I need to wait 4 weeks just to see if they got my fax.
There is no reason why it takes 4 weeks just to see if they got my fax. All
I want is my rebate for a total of $225.00 as they advertised but they keep
giving us the run around. If not I want permission to return both the
computer and the printer and get a full refund. I am not waiting 4 weeks,
14 days, or 7 days. On 4-8-08 I am going to the consumer complaints and the
MD Gazette and letting them know of this scam.

My co-worker bought a cell phone with a rebate and they told him the same
thing they "never got it".

The rebates given by office Depot are scams and I think everyone should be
aware of them. There should be no reason why I should have to call several
times, fax several times, and spend hours just trying to get the rebate that
I am owed.

Be careful charging at Office Depot
Bought a laptop. Was told their register stopped working and went to another one. Manager (or assistant) assured us first transaction did not go through. Bank statement had 2 charges. Manager made up some story that I had returned it, but when I asked to see the records there was none. Fortunately my bank reviewed the transaction and cleared the charge. Never did hear back from Office Depot.
