I went to see a Richard Glover some time ago in regards to my pension, and my wife's pension. We had moved from the UK to Southern Spain to enjoy the sunshine and hopefully a happy retirment. We had a pension in the UK which we were happy to leave there. The advie we where given was to move our pension scheme to Nez Zealand and to cash it in. We would be charged a number of fees for doing it and that we'd recieve a tax free lump sum. The fees where considerable which when all taken into account amounted to over 10% of out life savings.
Fortunately we did not take the advice at the time, but we have found out since then that the lump sum is not tax free we would have to pay tax, and that the whole practive is potenially illegal as there is not permission form the UK HMRC to withdraw 100% from our pensions, and we are not residentd in New Zealand.
We had a luck escape, but I do fear for others who may not be so fortunate.
