Overcharged
I was looking for a moving company and went on the internet to a site that gave out my info to 7 different moving co and they came back with estimates. Omega van lines came in with a price of 935 for moving a 3 bed room house from gainesville to harrisionburg va. We set it up for Sat 11/1/08, they called the night before confirmed the move to be at 8-9 am . We went to meet them at the house in gainesville for 8 am that day, by 10:30 we still had not seen or heard from them. My husband called and was told there was a problem with the truck and they needed to get another one it would be a while longer, We waited and 2 hrs later still nothing, my husband called back got no answer 20 min later they called and said they would not make it today, They would have to arrange it for tomorrow. They showed up on Sun at 8:15 am, they quoted it would take 7 hrs moving and 4 hrs travel, which seemed fair, they arrived in a Penski truck they rented!! and at 4:30 pm they were just finishing moving my stuff into the van. They completely dismantled all my furniture!!! and when my husband asked what they were doing they said that is how they do things he even called the boss and got the same answer. When they arrived at my new home at 7:30 pm!!! They came in with an invoice and said we needed to pay $4780.00 right now before they would even take our stuff off the truck!! That was a big difference from 935.00!! When we asked why so much difference they started being rude and saying that is the way it is so we called the police they came we called a lawyer who told us to bring up the federal ruling on what movers can charge and we still were told it was up to them and they would be happy to take our stuff to their warehouse till we wanted to pay their price. We were caught over a barrel so pd them.. I then looked up on the internet that they seem to do this to ALL their moves they quote 1 price then ask for 2-4x as much before they unload it. And no one seems to be able to stop their buisness.
