One Source Roofing Reviews

destruction of house and personal injury
One Source Roofing sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting

One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) is horrendously incompetent, negligent, and irresponsible.

One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) and its continuous negligence is responsible for water and mold damage which caused a collapse, injuring me and requiring shoulder surgery, and doing about $400, 000 in damage. One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) destroyed my home and permanently changed my life.

(Damage numbers do not include medical/surgical/rehab bills in the tens of thousands or the loss of materials/renovation-in-process at the time of injury and destruction.)

One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) says it has operations in Orlando, Vero Beach, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Fort Lauderdale operation seems to have coincided with hurricane Wilma damage and now is defunct.

Before One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) worked on my 65-year-old 3, 000 sf house, there had never been a leak.

In May, 2006, One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) took a core of my roof as part of their estimating process. They did not patch the core properly. Only after the contract was signed did I realize there was a leak where the core was removed. But that was nothing...

On August 23, 2006, One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) started ripping off the roof at the east end of my house. One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc.., general contractor) did not properly cover the exposed roof. It rained, and water came in. I called One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general Contractor); someone came but did not adequately cover the roof. It continued to rain. One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) continued to rip off more roof, moving west day by day. One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) did not cover the roof adequately. I called One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) many times, left dozens of messages, and a very few times One Source Roofing responded. Over the ensuing weeks, One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) persisted in removing more roof and not adequately covering it. Water poured in, such that I had buckets, waste baskets, and 33-gallon trash cans all over my house to catch the water. I was pushing water out of my house with a push broom. This was 24 hours a day. Some of the electrical shorted out. In spite of many calls to One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general Contractor), no one seemed interested in dealing with the problem. Almost all of my calls to One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) were ignored. One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general Contractor) still did not adequately cover the roof.

On September 5, at 4 in the afternoon, the general contractor William Seay assured me the house was safe. At 10 o'clock on the night of September 5, the gypsum-and-plaster ceiling in my bedroom collapsed on me, about 70 square feet of it, very heavy, knocking me to the floor, cutting up my head and leg, and injuring my shoulder. (Memorial Hospital Urgent Care Center sent me home with my arm in a sling, and after another visit to Urgent Care and many weeks of physical therapy, I subsequently had to have surgery to repair the shoulder.)

I called and faxed One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) about the collapse, injury, and damage, and the mother of Alice Johnson, President One Source Roofing, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting, saw the fax and insisted her daughter deal with it.

Over the next few days, Alice Johnson, President One Source Roofing, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting, called me three times, each time insisting she would immediately come see the damage, including me.

(Funny thing, One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) let its insurance lapse August 31, 2006. One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) did not get new insurance until September 6, 2006.)

After the collapse and injury, One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general Contractor) still, still continued to rip off roof and leave it inadequately covered as the rains continued for two more weeks. No responsible person from One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) came to the site.

Finally, on October 18, 2006, eight weeks after the damage started and almost six weeks after the collapse and injury, Alice Johnson, President of One Source Roofing, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting, came to my house. I gave her copies of the engineers' reports on the roof, the water damage and now the mold infestation. The mold report required gutting most of the house, and the insurance company agreed. (Mold is insidious and dangerous. It must be removed by workers in haz-mat suits. It is handled and treated like nuclear waste in movies.) The response of Alice Johnson, President of One Source Roofing, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting, was that One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) was qualified to deal with mold remediation. and to offer to wash down the walls with borax solution. Aside from this one visit from Alice Johnson, President of One Source Roofing, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting, no one at One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) showed an interest in the problem they had so entirely and unnecessarily created.

It is now three and a half years later. Standard homeowners insurance does not cover mold, nor does it cover water- or mold-damaged contents. Nationwide Insurance has paid about $100, 000 toward repairs and housing during repairs, and I have spent more than another $100, 000. I have not been able to finish the repairs, which will require another (maybe) $50, 000 or to replace all the clothes, furniture, rugs and possessions destroyed by water and mold, probably still another $100, 000. Mold remediation for household contents and person possessions like clothing is very problematic, using caustic chemicals, creating as much damage as it remedies. I had to move out for eight months, so there were significant additional rent, moving, and storage expenses, some of it paid by Nationwide. Even the rental of emergency air-scrubbers and dehumidifiers was $2, 000 a month, and electricity to run the air-scrubbers and dehumidifiers cost $600 a month, none of it covered by Nationwide.

One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) missed and failed required inspections of the roof work, which was finally “completed” October 18, 2006. The roof installed by One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) was inspected by an independent inspector and found to be defective. The Chief Building Inspector of Hollywood, Florida, inspected the roof done by One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general Contractor); he said that while the visible work was of poor workmanship, it still met the City's minimum requirements for sign-off even though One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) had missed/failed preliminary inspection to confirm that insulation and the first layer of new roofing had been done properly, or done at all.

I have been suing One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President) (William Seay, Inc., general Contractor) for over two years. The insurer for One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) said it was not liable. One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) claimed the roof damage was done by the air-conditioning man. At no point did One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general Contractor) even try to do the right thing.

Please be forewarned about One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President, sometimes DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) and William Seay, Inc., general contractor. and please review your insurance coverage very, very carefully.

One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson, President) now, for the moment. has some kind of coverage through Indian Harbour Insurance Company.

Update:

One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson President, DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) has used their lawyers and their new insurance company to stall any effort to hold them accountable.  Broward County Judge Cheryl Aleman, in order to make her case statistics look better, has ordered in November 2009 that the case be resolved within 60 days, which was not possible, so I have been denied any constructive redress.  One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson President, DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) has proven that there is justice only for those with the funds to pursue it indefinitely, that he who comes to his senses first loses.  One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson President, DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) has still not done a single thing to mitigate the loss.

Nationwide Insurance has paid, but nothing like replacement cost and nothing for contents, so maybe 25% of the physical loss has been covered.

Public Adjusters Howard Nelson and Eyal Hakim, retained 20 months ago, stated they could recover another $100, 000 to $175, 000 of the remaining covered loss and keep insisting they have filed a "request for appraisal", but Nationwide says they have heard nothing about this "request for appraisal" filing.  I have called Nationwide and checked "my claims" on the Nationwide website... nada.   My lawyer (bills in arrears) contacted Nationwide's counsel, who confirmed that Howard Nelson and Eyal Hakim have not filed a claim; the four years statute of limitations will run out later this year, so Howard Nelson and Eyal Hakim as well as One Source Roofing (Alice Johnson President, now doing business with DBA Sunshine Roofing and Consulting) (William Seay, Inc., general contractor) may get away with their ripoffs.
