(You need a category for fraudulent gift cards. The card says specifically that it's not a credit card so the company can dodge complaints listed in that category and there isn't another one on here that defines this scam)
The card requires you to call and give your date of birth and social security number to activate it. There are excessive 'service' charges even though they are spelled out in the small print. $4.95 monthly service fee; $1.95 ATM transaction fee; $9.95 fee to get 'money shield' protection for your personal information if you use their online website to activate your card, otherwise you have no guarantee of secured information.
The card expires 60 days after activation or from the date of purchase, which ever comes first.
I activated the card with a representative over the phone and the card has been declined on 3 separate occasions in stores.
In short...you can't use the card unless you provide personal information with no guarantee of security on that information. I'll be following this up with Consumer Affairs and the Attorny General's office. But people need to know that this is a total scam and you can't use the card.
