patient negligence
I was a patient of a very reputable pain management center. Had to find another doctor due to us moving over an hour away. Found this doctor on insurance website and made an appointment. I thought this was another pain care center but when I went in I realized that it was set up in an office of another doctor. I barely had an exam on my first visit and the doctor was nice at first but a bit condescending. Not unusual for some specialists so since I have been a chronic pain patient for so long and I needed to be on medication and couldn't see the other doctor I was stuck with this guy. He gave me a script that was less than what I was usually on but out of desperation I thought I'd try cutting back. Some is better than none right? Well this doctor insisted on doing another injection. He said he was going to do it different than how the other doctors did. I reluctantly agreed and it was scheduled. While I was on the table and right as I was being sedated I heard him say, "I'll just do a regular epidural injection", and I was out before I could contest. I have had several that way and even told him how against having one like that done. I agreed only because he insisted he would be doing it differently. I woke up in intense pain. I asked to speak with him and told him that the meds I was on barely took care of my pain cause it was a step down and now I was in so much pain there that I didn't think I would make it through the night. He was very unkind and just said, "I don't have my rx pad here so call the office tomorrrow". I ended up in the ER cause he didn't respond to my emergent after hours call. The next day he put me on Dilaudid but made me see him once a week cause of me complaining that the old meds didn't work. The dilaudid made me sick and then I ended up in the hospital. I seen him and he put me on a fentanyl patch. After that I was hospitalized for a new, non related problem and was told to follow up with him. I was brought in by ambulance and the meds my sister handed over were lost. All my meds, , even some clothes so I went home 6 days later with no pain meds except for the patch the hospital left on me as a courtesy. Well I emailed him, called him and even called the emergent line only to get no answer. As a chronic pain medicine patient if you don't have your meds you go through terrible withdrawl symptoms. My next appointment wasn't until 7 days later and he told me to wait until then. I was so sick and on top of my new health problem this was bad. He had no problem taking my money but when I really needed him he neglected to call me or take care of me as his patient. His center is a farce. He is just operating out of other doctors offices to save money and make as much as he can. He had me come into his office to tell me something he could have told me on the phone. He got paid by me and my insurance for that one yet he never once talked to me after being released from the hospital or went out of his way to help me. I have a seizure disorder and dropping medications like that suddenly can cause them to happen. Yet he neglected to care. All he wants to do is keep doing injections on me to "try new things", and when I protest against them he gets upset and threatens me being able to get my medications. This doctor is setting up as almost a Dr. Mengele. He is doing his experiments with Botox in the back and other things and then medicating with high, high doses of narcotics. You can never get a hold of him and my first office visit I waited 3 hours. He never apologized once. The next 4 appts I had to wait at least an hour each. When it comes to follow up care he neglects to follow up with his patients and if there is ever an emergent issue, such as mine, he is not qualified or he is so callous that he can't deal with them. He has this facade at first like he is a caring doctor who is skilled in pain management and dealing with chronic pain, when really he just wants to make as much money as possible and keep you doped up enough to allow him to try whatever he wants with your back, neck, knees etc. Your a human guinea pig. I spoke to two doctors about this care and objectively even spoke of why he may be hesitant but they both expressed their concern and disgust with his behavior. I think he needs to at least be checked out. He should go back to regular anesthesia and leave the pain issues to the compassionate doctors who put their patients first not their wallets or the possibility of world wide recognition for some new procedure he discovers while going through hundreds of patient trying out unprecedented experiments.
