Did not deliver
My company was about to order from Papa John's when I stopped them to tell them this:
In 1998, I called to order for delivery after my family moved into a new home. I requested delivery, gave them the address and the order. 10 minutes after the pizza was supposed to arrive, I called them to inquire how much longer. They said "you didnt request delivery. The pizza is here waiting!" (It was almost an hour by this time). I asked if someone could bring it to me w/in the next 10 minutes. The girl on the phone loudly said to her co-workers "hey, she wants this in the next 10 minutes", and they all laughed. I told her to keep it and I was not going to order from them again.
12 Years later, I have not ordered from Papa John's, and neither do my friends, family, or company I work for.

NOTES FROM A FORMER PJ EMPLOYEE
I recently quit my job as an in-store customer service rep at Papa John's. I believe every accusation made against them here and I'm very sorry for that fact. Somebody wrote that PJ's is a hostile environment, which is exactly why I left. I could no longer take the hostility bestowed on me by my mangers, and I couldn't take the hostility bestowed on the customers by my co-workers AND managers. I really enjoyed getting to know my regular customers; believe it or not I remembered their names, their "go-to" orders, etc. I frequently gave my carryout customers extra sides of sauce free of charge because I think it's ridiculous to charge 80 cents for something so small. Anyhow, I was with PJ's for nearly two years. I got a "promotion" which meant that I got to wear a different colored shirt and take on more responsibilities, yet I received no pay raise. When I asked about getting a raise, the GM just laughed in my face. There were many occasions in which I watched as the GM verbally assaulted his delivery drivers, calling them "worthless f***heads" and what-not. So many complaints have been filed against this man, and yet he remains. Why? As another unhappy customer stated, it's all about profit. He may be a terrible person, but he manages to bring money to the store, so he stays.
Here are a few things you should know regarding some complaints:
*If your pizza is late, it is more than likely no fault of the driver. It really depends on how fast the makeline is turning out their products, and whether or not the store is understaffed. Because, as I stated before, it's all about the profit, recently Papa John's has been cutting peoples hours to save money, and scheduling too few people on any given day. That said, please tip your driver. They live off of their tips. If you can't afford to tip them, then you should probably pick your order up to save them the strife. Oh, and the delivery charge is not a tip. They get a measly cut of that and the rest goes to The Suits.
*When dealing with a rude team member or manager, kill them with kindness. It sounds silly and I realize it may be hard to do in the heat of the moment, but trust me as someone who's seen it happen: IT WORKS! Managers/shift leaders in particular seem to get a sick satisfaction out of willing a customer to curse at them. Nothing pisses them off more than when a customer is able to bite his or her tongue and remain cordial throughout what should be a heated exchange.
*If you want the smoothest ordering process possible, I suggest avoiding ordering online. It may seem convienent, but in reality there are so many bugs within the system that have yet to be worked out that sometimes it's worse. Coupons don't "stick" and you end up being charged regular menu price, the system "bugs out" and somehow switches your order from delivery to carryout or vice-versa, and sometimes the order isn't sent through at all, or it is sent through but to the wrong location.
*Be careful when paying by credit or debit card. If something happens and you have to make a change to your order or cancel it completely, it can take up to two weeks for the cost of the previous order to be deposited back into your account.

Rude managers, hostile work environment
I am a Papa John's "insider" who has been working at the Montrose location for a little over 6 months. The hiring manager is very unprofessional, and whenever something up front goes wrong, she is very rude to me, even if the problem was not directly caused by me.
This store is a mess, and all the managers but one or two are incredibly rude to their employees. They have the option to fire me, but they will not. I thought seriously about quitting, but I can't until a find another job.
The regional manager is very very negative and uses scare tactics to control employees.
I do wish the managers would be willing to train their employees, to cultivate them, etc. I would be doing much better if someone would actually train me instead of expecting me to figure things out on my own.

Store Policy
I was just informed recently (December 2009) by my son, that the General Manager of the fast food pizza chain, Papa John's informed him that he was no allowed in the store. Facts: he was an employee of that store and quit without notice back in Feb/Mar 2009.
I am basically appalled and would like the complain filed wherever appropriate while I see information on this corporation's store policy as well as seek legal counsel on civil rights and businesses.
Thank you,

No Free pizza!
Au8g. 26, 2009 was promoted as get a free one topping pizza at any Papa John's Pizza when you drive your Camaro to the pizzeria. When my husband arrived they said that only the first 25 customers were entitled to a free pizza and naturally my husband wasn't one of them.
A big promotion by Papa John's on the internet said ANYONE who drives to a Papa John's with their Camaro are entitled to a free pizza, talk about a lie.

Terrible experience
On 7/19/08 we ordered pizza online at Papa John's website. The order total was $40.12. I also have an email from Papa John's stating the order total and location of pick-up. Upon arriving for pick-up, my husband was advised that the total was $59 plus change. When my husband questioned why the order total changed, he was told that's what the total is because we had ordered online. My husband advised the employee that he has an email with the proper cost ($40.12) and a local advertisement that also states the same items and pricing info which matched the same items and pricing online. The employee began yelling when my husband said that he wants the price as ordered and my husband asked the rude Papa John's employee for his credit card back. The employee then yelled at him again stating "Thanks, for wasting my time." There were several exchanges of words. My husband left. I called the store owner who said that online prices are from corporate and their system does not accept them. Our problem is, they advertise the prices which were the same on the order, their store window advertises the prices, and their online website also advertises the prices, and even processes orders for the Orland Park location. But whne you arrive to pick up your order, they tell you a different total! They cannot meet the advertised price according to their employees, they say online ordering is a corporate thing. We have the email and all of the information indicating what we were supposed to pay. The rude employee certainly had no reason to yell or to act as though they don't care. It certainly was a horrible and unnecessary experience. They should not be able to conduct business this way.

charge delivery on makeup-pizza
Papa johns made a mistake with my order, then compounded this with telling me all sorts of falsehoods, stuff like 'I just asked the regional manager, who happens to be in the back, and no you cannot talk to him' We will refund your credit card in 2 weeks! etc etc. (NOTE NEVER PAY BY CREDIT CARD)
I ended up calling the real regional manager (John Perez?) and stated my experience. He asked 'how can I make this right' and I said #1 educate your people #2 have a conveint comment line #3 give me 1 free pizza.
John sent me 4 or 5 coupons for complientary pizza. He even crossed out the 1 topping and wrote 3 toppings in it's place to match my original screwed up order.
I used 3. One time the pizza guy forgot to collect one so I just threw it away. I used one today and they slapped a delivery charge on there.
I paid the delivery charge in pennies, and tipped the driver $2.00 (not his fault)
you lost a customer for life Papa Johns

Horrible Customer service
I ordered a pizza over an hour ago from Papa Johns in Burtonsville, MD, which according to their online locater is 3 miles from my house. After waiting an hour I called to inquire about my pizza. The rep that answered the phone had no idea how to find my address (only 3 miles). The rep asked me to explain the directions to the driver. When the driver came on the phone, he could barely speak English, and obviously did not understand I word of what I was saying. The was such a frustrating experience that I will never order from Papa Johns again.

Pizza dough uncooked
We just had two pizza delivered to our home for my grandchildren, my son and my self 57 year old Grandmother. The dough on the crust was uncooked when you took a bite it was like eating raw dough. The outer layer was a little toasted but inside was raw. I called the Shively/PRP location where we ordered and the manager Laurie said that there was nothing she could do about our terrible pizza order. She said we could bring it back and she could give us two new pizzas but I have no way of going since I have 3 grandchildren in my home and no vehicle at the present time. I told her I had already thrown the pizza in the trash since they were raw. I cooked frozen pizza's for the boy's myself. So I wasted around $ 20.00 which in this day and time is a lot of money. I have ordered from Papa John's for years but I will not do so again unless I am refunded my money or comensated in someway, I work hard for my money and I do not appreciate being left holding two raw pizzas . They are supposed to be very reputable but I am very disappointed with this order and the way I was talked to. This was a treat for my Grandsons and I am very dissatisfied to say the least. Thank you for your time. Charlotte Shumate 7709 Conifer Drive Louisville, KY 40258 502-937-3262
