The Gotra controversy over the marriage of Shilpa and Ravinder today took a new turn with the Khap (caste) panchayat of the bride side refusing to accept the decision of that of the groom side to get the couple divorced.
The khaap at Shilpa's village Siwah in Panipat district today said it was not the fault of the girl in marrying Ravinder as the boy's family already knew that Shilpa belonged to the Kadyan gotra. Therefore, there was no point in making the girl suffer on this account.
The khaap from the groom side had reached a conclusion yesterday that the girl's family be persuaded to go in for a divorce as Ravinder belonged to Gehlot gotra, whose members could not marry their wards into a Kadyan family. It had even served a notice to the boy's family to dispose of their property in the village and leave within 72 hours if the marriage was not dissolved. The Kadyan khap, however, stated that it was not justified that Shilpa be divorced after having been married for almost four months. They said either the boy's family should convince other villagers to accept her or they should leave the village.
They said if the girl was divorced, it would destroy her life completely.
The delegation from the boy's village said they had been misled by Ravinder's family, saying shilpa's parents were ready for the divorce.
Meanwhile, it was decided that a final decision in this regard would be taken at the next khaap which would be held at Beri village in Jhajjar district.
