Fraud
After installing Spyware Doctor on my computer, my computer has been messed up. All the icons and start-up menu disappeared off my desktop. It's impossible to remove Spyware Doctor. My computer froze and Spyware Doctor can not be removed. PC Tools does not have a listed phone number, fax number, or any contact information other than a mailing address.

Credit card debit
I have hust had €29.95 taken from my credit card by pc tools. It has been 3 years since I used their service.
I can not find any way of contacting them to get a refund. How is it possible in this day and age that they can take money from my account with no authorisation?

Registry Mechanic & Spyware Doctor
I purchased a Registry Mechanic from PC Tools on 10/26/2009 and the Order Number is 11779020. I also bought a Spyware Doctor on 11/6/2009 and this Order Number is 1257481252-19239-249201. I got the purchased License Codes for these products when I downloaded them. I recently reformatted my computer and I requested the License Codes to be sent to my e-mail address. What they sent to me were License Codes for the free versions of the products, which means I will have to download the free version and then purchase those to get the License Codes even though I have alread purchased them already. Do they expect me to pay for them twice?
When I use the License Codes I had when I dowloaded these products I get a message saying: Sorry, that is an invalid License Code. Please ensure you have entered the License Code exactly as provided. I have tried to contact PC Tools by e-mail and did not get any reply. I even tried to have a chat sesssion with an agent and was told that I would have to download the Free version first then I could get the License Codes for the purchased version. I tried to explain that I have already purchased them, and all he did was send me the address for their website so my case could not be resolved.
To add to my frustration, my computer has a number of spyware and malware that the free versions detected but will not clean them unless I purchase the full version. Furthermore, I cannot access my account with them, nor send them an e-mail for some days now as they are all blocked off. They do not even have a phone number listed where I could contact them. At this point, I am at the end of my rope with them, so if they cannot let me have the License Codes for the purchased products I will request that my money be refunded; then I will purchase from anothe company.
Thanks for assisting me to resolve this problem I am having with PC Tools.
Your truly,
Ella R. Day

Spy Doctor Scam
My son's computer had a virus and he downloaded a "free" version of Spy Doctor from PC Tools. In the middle of cleaning all the so called infected files, we were asked to purchase Spy Doctor for $29.95 to continue the process. They said they would e-mail a license to us to activate the account. That e-mail NEVER came. Tried calling them - disconnected. Tried e-mailing them - received an automated response saying they're so busy it would take a while for them to answer. They weren't too busy to take my money!! That charge went through the next day!!! I called my bank and had them block my card and issue another one. It's the only solution. BE WARNED - PC TOOLS IS A MAJOR SCAM. THEY ARE RIP-OFF ARTISTS!!!

Unauthorized Credit Card Charge
I received an email today, 6/7/2009, advising me that my annual subscription was renewed. Quantity of two at $24.95 each for a total charge to my credit card of $49.90. I was very angry since I never reordered this product, did not like the product very much the one time i purchased it anyway. Furthermore, I don't understand why they charged a quantity of "2". Perhaps it is because I have two computers. Or perhaps it is because they are charging my account for "two" one-year subscriptions. The credit card I used had a two-year expiration date so that would put the expiry at 6/30/2009. So I can see why they rushed this auto-debit prior to expiration date - and charged me for a two-year term. Quite sneaky, I think. And quite unscrupulous !
I called my credit card company to dispute the charge and was advised to call back on 6/10/2009 to further discuss after the charge from "Digital River" will advance from a pending to a posted transaction.
I sent an email back to PC Tools to complain about the charge. I don't expect any comfort. I will also log on to the web site to review my account status regarding a "cancel feature". I see from my invoice today that the duration of subscription is "unlimited" and billing period is every 12 months. I have a suspicion that their billing department, in order to increase sales, just guesses at the expiry date based on the year previously given. Perhaps they repeatedly plug in an expiration year and hope it works. That's just my guess.
There are three companies to deal with here: PCTools in the United States, Digital River in Cologne Germany, and PC Tools Limited in Clare County, Ireland. Multiple entities in different jurisdictions to deal with is far too cumbersome - which is the way they would like it. Where to place the blame ???
Time will tell.
This is a SHELL GAME. What shell has the peanut (and my money) under it ?
I will Never buy from this company again.
I cancelled my subscription to PC Magazine a year ago.
