2 email confirmations for Spyware Doctor - charged card twice
A few minutes ago, I received 2 "confirmation" emails dated February 25, 2009 (it is March 12 today) from PC Tools. It confirmed my automatic 12-month renewal for Spyware Doctor for $29.95. I have NEVER purchased anything from PC Tools so there should NOT be any "automatic renewal" whatever charges.
At the bottom of the email, there is an address in Ireland:
PC Tools Limited
Units A & B, Block 4, Shannon Business Park, Shannon, Co. Clare, Ireland.
Both $29.95 email confirmations even provided me with a "personal" Spyware Doctor License code. However, both licenses were exactly identical (for seperate transactions!), which is a big sign that this is a scam/fraud and a big fail on their part...
What should I do? It says the charges were Feb 25 but conf. wasn't received til today! I will contact my bank/VISA card in the morning. Anything I should be aware of? Is this a worm? Is it bad that I opened the email?
Thx.

Automatic Renewal
I bought PC Tools via the internet. Nowhere did the websire say that they would automatically renew it without my permission. But, they billed my credit card and renewed it against my wishes. This should be illegal. Nobody should be able to bill anyone's credit card unless they have explicit authorization from the cardholder. I would NEVER buy any of their products, again.

DECEPTIVE SUBSCRIPTION WARNING
Obviously, from the number of complaints about PC TOOLS, it is or should be a pariah in the software business. They are behaving like cheap car dealers, or Nigerian scam artists. Here is the email I have sent them twice, no reply. Fortunately, our credit card was stolen and cancelled -- hopefully limiting PC TOOLS to what they have cheated us of so far. By the way, their PC TOOL crashed our PC while trying to remove the virus -- and we had to trash it!!

RE: Subscripion Fraud Cancellation
"I wrote you via your site 4 months ago to cancel this subscription, which I if anything was tricked by the kidn of fine print you find in car dealer deals. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
Our lawyers would not have picked up your cleverly hidden subscription reference in your terms. Your products are also inferior, like your ethics. It has taken hours just to find out where to send a cancellation -- you bury any reference on your site.
I have kept my correspondence, but you have not bothered to reply to confirm this cancellation. It is within your self imposed time limits."

chage on my debit card
There was a 76.27 charge on my debit card for PC TOOLS and I had never heard of them. I called them and Element 5. The charge has not went thru yet and they said they couldn't stop it and since I canceled my card they couldn't give me a refund but I could have one of their products. We got a real weird email from eeb@msn and it directed us to a site in England or Ireland. I wonder if it was a worm that went into the computer and got our card number. It did mail itself out to everyone on our mailing list.I used Defender Pro to get rid of it.
