Let me start off by saying I have never seen the show (Mtv's or the BBC's version). Actually, I never even heard of the show until a couple of days ago when people on the net started complaining and pointing towards a New York Times article saying the show was so evil that it should be wiped off the face of the Earth. Then people started complaining that companies like Subway are not pulling their ads like Taco Bell did. Let me just say this to all the people complaining about Skins...shut up! Ignore the show. That is the best advice I can give. Ignore it.
Again, I never even heard of the show until all this attention started. I haven't watched Mtv since they stopped running music videos, which was back in like 1994. Even had a heard of it, I would have had no interest in watching it, similar to my attitude towards Jersey Shore (proud to say I've never seen even one minute of that show). But after all the complaining and the screaming about it, I'm actually curious enough to watch it.
Congrats to the New York Times, the complainers, and the moral outrage. You have actually made me curious enough to tune in. Don't you people understand that all this kind of complaining does is make people curious enough to tune in? Had you said nothing, I, along with millions of others, would have never even known about the show. Of course Subway isn't going to pull their ads now. They know that the ratings are going to be off the charts for next couple of weeks because of all the complaints. Taco Bell pulled away for two reasons. One, they needed some good PR. Two, they already have the Mtv demographic eating their almost daily. Subway, on the other hand, would love to get more of the Mtv demographic in their shops. From a business standpoint, it is too good to pass up.
I'm very interested to see the rating for this week's episode of Skins. My guess is that it is going to be off the charts. If that turns out to be true, Mtv should send the New York Times a whole bunch of flowers and a thank you card. Nothing brings out an audience like the morally outraged.
So before you make another complaint about the show Skins or anything else like that, just remember the more outrage, the bigger the audience. If you don't like it, ignore it.
