On the 4th of July, this year, my 2002 Hyundai started to overheat. The next day I went to my mechanic but they were closed. While I was there I lifted the hood and saw what the problem was. My top radiator hose was leaking. I then went to Pep Boy's not to far away and when I got there I was overheating. I had not driven to far on hot. I went in and told a service personel I needed the top radiator hose replaced. She asked me if I had overheated and I said yes. She said that they would have to do a block check first. I said, "My engine is fine just replace the hose and I will take it to my mechanic tomarrow and have them check it out. The cost was a little over 100 dollars and without insurance a little under 100 dollars. I asked how much was the block check and she said no additional charge. They did the block check and the mechanic and the girl came to me and showed me something that looked like the glass tube you use to check a battery. There was colored liquid in it and the mechanic said I failed the block check and there was some chance that I had a leaky head gasket. I asked what does, " some." mean and he said there is a 60 percent chance you have a leaky head gasket. I said I just wanted them to put on the hose and I would have my mechanic check things out tomarrow. They refused saying they could be sued. I said I would sign a release but they still refused. I asked if they would sell me the hose, and they did. The hose cost $12.71 and they put some water in my radiator at my request and I made it as far as a Shell station on route 13 near Morrell when it started to heat up. I pulled in and asked for water and was told they had not water. After an extended argument he relented and in fact there was water in a container you water flowers with. I made it home and me and my son replaced the top hose which was fairly easy. Two pressure clips and trim the hose at both ends and clean off the connections and put some past wax inside the hose and it slipped right on. I did save about $80.
