Pep Boys Reviews

Scam
I took my car to Pep Boys on Evergreen Way in Everett WA. I made the appointment a day ahead, I dropped the keys in the box the next morning, I called after they opened at 8:00 to check in with the service department and when I went to pick up my car after work, they had not attended to it at all. The keys were still in the drop box. I'm beyond pissed. I missed a very important appointment I went out of my way to take it to them in the first place and there is absolutely no excuse. It is just very poor customer service and I will never darken their door again.

Charged me 19.65 two hours of work for oil change
Pep Boys in Irving Tx charged me for two hours of work on an oil change. They told me they couldn't get my oil screw cap off, and asked me where did I get my last work done. And yes I was at Pep Boys the time before. The desk machanic asked me what do I want to do about them not being able to get the screw cap off. (Drain plug). I told him what, your the machanic you get it off. And I was charged 19.65 for labor on an oil change at Pep Boys in Irving Tx on Beltline rd and hwy 183.

wrong flush treatment
Name:Erik & Family

I have a 1995 Chevrolet Beretta i had a Radiator flush done on my car and other work for 162.88. One mouth later my transmission fluid mix in the radiator fluid and my radiator has no fluid. They gave me a part number on my paper work Part#5070708 comes back to moc muti-treatment and it with acid neutrailizers and added alkaline reserves. not good for after market parts with aluminum in it like my new Radiator and over 2, 000 i put in this car for my family. Had talk to someone and they said its not pep boys fault to take it up with MOC. Didn't pay moc to work on my CAR.

Scam
First the service department told me I needed an intake valve and cover. They could do the job for a mere 800 dollars...Ok that seemed like a lot of money and I wanted to discuss it with my family first since I was recently widowed and this would be a lot of money for a woman on a very fixed income...My family agreed and since the car had been running hot I decided not to drive the car but to have it towed to prevent any other damage. The truck hadn't been there long when I received a phone call from the service department advising me that now I needed a complete NEW engine...I had no choice but just to tell them that I would send my tow company of choice to bring it home...I spent two months worrying about what to do next. A friend and neighbor of thirty years suggested I take it to a local place that he used for his and his wife's car and truck. Again I had it towed in to prevent further damage. I was so happly to learn today that the only problem with my truck was that it needed a new themostat, seal and cover...cost with labor 355 including tax. Your service department saw a widow and tried to take advantage. SHAME, SHAME! I always reccomended Pep Boys in the past but never, ever again. THE TOWING BILL ALONE JUST TO AND FROM WAS 80 DOLLARS. You have lost a good custmer and a good recommendation.

bad brake job
I had my front and rear brakes done at pep boys (premium package) after 7k miles the front right brake
fell off and was dangling from the brake line, My wife and children reluctantly drove the car 5 miles to the Orange location. The service manager fixed the warrantied work; I then asked "Sean" if he had his men check the other brakes...With a blank stare and a I don't know response I did not feel so self-assured.
within 3 weeks the left front brake fell off!!! These people are incompetent and don't care about the quality of work they do. not to mention failing brakes causing potential fatalities.
Sincerely,
Art Benner,
Orange, Ca.

I took my car in for a smog check, and I was told no appointment necessary, anytime between 9am to 5pm. I was speaking to Service Manager, Patrick McPhee #880. I left and returned within 1 1/2 hour, to complete my smog check. Patrick spoke up and indicated that it would be a 4 hour wait. He stated that "his guy" had a job left over from the previous night that had to get done, and I could wait. Of course I can't wait 4 hours, but I tell him I would return. I ask that he put my information in the computer, so I would be guarenteed that when I return @4:30, I would be helped. He refuses to put my information into the computer. I remarked that information would have been helpful an hour ago, so I could have gone somewhere else. I ask my husband to turn around and take my car back, to see if he can get in any sooner, and he does. He is helped within 5 minutes, no wait time. He speaks with another assistant manager, Brian Baldwin, and he is very informative. He indicates that Patrick had had a fight with his girlfriend that AM, and was having a bad day. Patrick should leave his personal life at the door. My daughter was with me, and now she thinks that Pep Boys treats all women in this manner, young or old. What can I tell her? I know this much. I purchased tires from Pep Boys, and unfortunately I have to continue to do business with them. After I change out my tires, I will never do business with them again. They have just lost a 20 year relationship with myself. I intend to tell everyone I know, and am considering taking this to a legislative level. Your attention to this matter is appreciative.

Poor service
I went to a Pep Boys recently to have my oil changed. Richard, the guy who writes up your car, sold me a regular oil change. It took roughly 20 min just for him to get my car in since he was so slow and old. I signed the paper and left. He told me I was the very first car of the day so it should be ready in 10 min. I said that's fine, and went to work. An hour later, Richard called me saying that he damaged my oil filter when he tried to remove it with a hammer. I became furious, since you don't remove a filter with a hammer. He said it wont come out, and I have to go to a "Git'er done" shop to get it out and it will cost me a "Purdy penny." I told him that when I get off of work that I will be having some sharp words for him. 20 min later, Richard showed up at my job. I dont know how he knew I worked there, and it seemed awkward. He started apologizing and I said that sorry isn't enough. He then said, "I will make it all good for you sweet cheeks." Richard touched my balls. It felt so sweet and nice, and he massaged my taint a bit. I totally forgot about what happened and I forgave him.

Do not hire
My 2003 Ford Expendition wasn't running right, dying at the light, so when I got it started, I drove it to Pep Boys, BIG MISTAKE, they want ya to prepay $90 to diagnose the problem. Then told me that the $90 doesn't come off the bill. It's in addition to what-ever work still needs to be done, at least the dealer's diagnostic cost is $25 & it comes off the bill when the vehicle is fixed. Save Money & time - DO NOT GO THERE, it's cheaper to go directly to the dealer & have it fixed right the first time.

Highway Robbery
Pep Boys on Rt. 35, Ocean NJ. Beware ladies.
Wayne (Service Mgr) and his mechanics will screw you. My girlfriend took her car in for front pads and rotors to be replaced. They took the car for 2 days, said the parts were not available, then charged her $600 (typical $250 job) My girlfriend was without a car for work and had no choice but to pay. They are rat's that prey on helpless victims. Beware!!! If I lived close to this place I would ring the necks of these low lifes. I am not done with these folks and will be following up with the BBB and State Consumer Affairs.‎

Road Hazard Warrenty
We purchased 4 Dakota tires from Pep Boys with road hazard warranty. We had a flat on one and the hole was in the side wall. My wife had to take the tire in and they replaced it but charged us for a new warranty and balance. I would highly suggest going to Discount or Big O. This is the first time I have had to pay for any money for road hazard damage. Both Big O and Discount replace the tire for free. I have had three replacements on one tire from Big O because my truck goes in and out of a Copper Mine everyday and Big O replaced the tire for free every time.
The Pep Boys was on Country Club Drive in Mesa Arizona.
