I purchased genuine Indian Remy hair from Perfect Locks in July 2009. I ordered the Wavy Hand Tied Weft in 10 inches. I also ordered the samples prior to purchasing the hair. The price of the samples was to go towards the overall purchase if you purchased the hair. The samples looked good but the small amount of hair that's provided really is not an indicator of what the hair will be like if you purchase a full 1/4 pound. You've heard of the bait & switch. So there is no guarantee that the samples are a genuine reflection of what you will be sent. You never know how hair will perform until you've installed it and washed it. I read the reviews on the hair I was going to purchase and they were glowing-4 stars plus. In fact every review I read was 4 star plus. As I look back this should have been a red flag but I only read maybe 8-10 reviews. After my experience with the hair I went through their website thoroughly and another one online that almost identical to perfect hair and every single review was 4 star plus. Nothing is that perfect. I believe they do not publish reviews on their site that complains about their hair and I also believe they either write reviews themselves (many sites do this) or they hired a professional blogger to write all the 4 & 5 star reviews. Very suspect.
I purchased the hair and it seemed good. I've never seen Indian Remy hair before. All hair looks & feels good in the package. Of course unless you purchase the twenty dollar horse hair. I had it installed a few days later. I went back to my stylist the following day to have more hair added because if you are used to wearing Asian hair from China or other parts of Asia the hair texture is different. Indian hair is much thinner so you need more hair. This is something that they should tell you in the question & answer section so you're not surprised. However adding more hair didn't make a difference. The first thing my stylist noticed was how inconsistent the length was. It was supposed to be 10 inches but the majority of it was about 9 1/2. There were some strands that measured out to 10 but not many and they would be trimmed off because your hair style would be raggedy looking. In fact to even the hair out about an inch was cut off. No wave, no body, it just hung like a rag. Straight. The hair was described on their site:
This beautiful and natural wavy Indian hair has a loose bouncy texture and feels perfect on your head. Use a good hair gel when wet and scrunch it to get deeper waves. This hair can be worn bone straight by using a flat iron, or can be deep curled using a curling iron, it's very flexible. Our hand-tied weft is pre-cut into 5 strips making it extremely easy for your stylist to work with.
This hair is naturally Wavy. Natural single drawn Indian 100% unprocessed virgin Remy Indian hair hand tied into high quality 3 thread micro wefts. Wefts are attached to your own hair by sewing them to a track (which is made from a tiny braid of your own hair). This is Virgin Remy, the pinnacle of human hair in it's purest form. The length of wavy hair is measured when straight and not when wavy.
It came off the backing with a wave pattern to it but once on your head it was gone. OK. So my stylist curled it. It wouldn't hold a curl. I'd been in the salon a while so I went home. I wet it down used "a good hair gel" scrunched it to get "deeper waves." Nothing. It hangs straight down. None of the characteristics described on the website were available in this hair product. It hangs down like a rag and is so unattractive. The only positive things is it hasn't tangled. Mostly because I keep it in a braid because I can't do anything else with it. No body, no wave, not a full 10 inches, won't hold a curl and hangs like a rag if unbraided. I had it all installed just to use it up and have spent the last month looking for another source. It's just good for braiding.
I contacted Perfect Locks and the response was how they straightened the hair out to measure it. Oh, they were sorry I was disappointed. I also told them they didn't apply my sample coupon to the overall purchase and of course they said that was my fault because they sent some code I was supposed to put in when I made my purchase. I never received an email with those instructions. They also asked would I like them to refund the money for the "samples" I told them yes. I also told them they only complaint they responded to was the hair length. They couldn't even defend the product because they know it's substandard. I have contacted the BBB in California and found the office that handles Clayton, CA where they are located and they have sent me a link to file a formal complaint. This has been a learning experience for me and I hope it will for others when they read this complaint which I am posting on websites through out the web with a link to this complaint page and a link to the BBB complaint when it is filed online.
