I purchased a bike trainer at Performancebike.com because there was a 10% off sale. The total came to 258.99 including shipping to a local store. I received my confirmation email with that same amount; I also checked my bank account to verify the pending charge. Less than an hour later I received notification from my bank that I was being charged again by Performancebike.com for the amount of 271.99. I was confused to why I had two pending charges from them of different amounts. I called the customer hot line and was told by the rep that I was not charged tax and they corrected it. She thought I was upset over the tax (which I was not) and she repeatedly tried to explain why I needed to have tax. I was getting really pissed of how she was talking down to me. Finally I cut her off and told her I had no problem with the tax, my problem was that I received NO NOTIFICATION that they missed charged me and were correcting it, nor were they authorized to recharge my account. While I was on the phone with her I went through the process of purchasing it again (without entering my credit card info) and it still did not charge me tax. The rep tried to make me feel better by offering to send me two $5 coupons. I am still livid that they charged my bank account a higher amount with NO notification or authorization. And, that the rep made me feel like I was the idiot! She also was skeptical that there was a problem with the website.
I will not purchase from PerformanceBike.com again. I may still go into the store, but my experience with the stores hasn't been that great either.
