I purchased a then 5 month old kitten from this breeder on October 1. When we purchased her she was noted to have extremely large eyes (which had been deemed ok by a verterinarian prior to my purchase of her), was very small and very lethargic, not acting like a normal, playful kitten when she was brought home. After taking her to a verterinarian of my choice, and being referred to an ophthamologist, she was noted to have severly inflammed eyes, a large ulcer on the upper half of her left eye, and glaucoma. Because of all of these problems she became blind. After a very expensive course of treatment, and her eyes getting better, some lab work for the kitten came back suspicious for FIP. We were told to keep a close eye on her to see if any symptoms develop. A few weeks later we brought her to the vet for a wellness check because she was acting strange. She was noted to be severely underweight, weighing only 1lb 14 oz, at almost 6 months of age, and despite the fact that she seemed to be a pretty good eater and drinker. She was put on a course of high calories food and gel and despite eating that for a week, she lost another ounce, going down to 1 lb. 13 oz this past Monday, November 16. She was also beginning to have bathroom accidents in the home the weekend before and whe at the vet was noted to have enlarged kidneys and signs and symptoms of FIP. We thought it best, as was recommended by the vet to put her to sleep, and an autopsy confirmed FIP virus was the cause of her demise. if we had not put her to sleep then, she would have only lated a few more days, getting worse and worse with each passing day.
I just hope and pray that no one else buys a kitten from this breeder. Before her demise the breeder was willing to take the kitten back and replace her with another one, but why would I want to have another kitten in my home with potentially the same problems? She was unwilling to refund the purchase price of the kitten, despite all of her documented serious health problems. I just do not want another family, who is assuming that they are buying a healthy kitten, to go through this emotional nightmare that my family and I just did.
