poor service
I called in the middle of the afternoon April 22nd to arrange for a puppy training class for my year and a half Chihuahua. Well, when I asked the girl that answered the phone if she could tell me what the puppy training classes cost, she promptly hung up the phone. All she said to me was the "Petco. How may I help you?" Lets just say I was extremely offended. I quickly took my business to Petsmart. The people at Petsmart were extremely helpful and even asked questions about me and my dog to accurately asses what my needs were. They invited me to come into the store to finish the paperwork and they gave me a list of all the items I needed to bring. All in all, I will never call Petco ever again. If at all possible I will take my business to Petsmart.

Buying a fish
I went to petco today wanting to buy a fish and picked out my fish and got someone to help me get it they then asked if i was 18 i said i was not and asked why, she then said because foreignors have been buying fish and throwing them on cars... and petco wanted to know their fish were going to a good home.. i got confused because i dont have dead fish floating in my tank at home and in almost every one of their tanks had at least one dead fish floating in the top of it so ask yourself if you were a fish which home would you choose? the home with dead fish floating in the top of your water poisoning you, or would you pick the one where the water is perfect and stress free? PETCO CLEAN YOUR TANKS!

Dirty ferret cage
I don't know where to start but this store needs investigated badly. There are many cages with little to no food and very filthy conditions. A lot of pets look very sick due to this. The ferrets did not have food and their water was solid brown and their whole cage was covered in feces because their litter box was solid black.

returns
I bought something at petco with my debit card and returned it on fort eddy road in concord n.h. and they insisted i only could get back my money by putting the amount back on my debit card. I then had to go home and call the main office and explain I paid with a debit card and this was like paying cash since it had already been deducted from my account. thay then inturn called the store and told them that it was like a cash transaction. this store has terrible customer service they are RUDE, PERSISTANT and UNFRIENDLY. this store likes to take your money but not give it back unless they really have to. they need to train this stores employees in customer service. they are Terrible Employees Awful!!!

Fraud and cheating
Today I went to the grand opening of our new PETCO and after gather all the products and standing in the long line... one of their reps told me I need to become a member... if I did not then I would not get any discounts... what discounts the prices were high... I started to fill it out and omitted my address and she said they needed it or "NO DISCOUNTS"... I asked why do they need my address?... "so we can send you coupons and newsletters" was her response. Outraged I left without purchasing the items and headed to my local KMart and bought my supplies without the hassle of forms or them filling my mailbox with all their trash. Our world is filled with too much unnecessary trash and plastic cards. We don't need a PETCO in Kona... go back to the mainland! I know some people who are originally from the mainland may think otherwise... if they do they can go back with PETCO too! One less Consumer.

Shipping issues
I have placed numerous orders through petco over the years. I average $100/month online and at the store. I then sent an order to my sister in Colorado. I placed another order for myself and later found out it was sent to my sister. i couldn't figure out why. I paid to have it shipped from Colorado to me in California.

I placed another order on new years eve and when I got the confirmation it was being sent to Colorado again. I quickly called them and explained it was being sent to the wrong address. They told me they could do nothing since it was new years day but call tomorrow and they would get it corrected. I called the moment they opned and explained the situation again. The rep told me i had to call fedex directly. I called fedex and they said they could change it but the company had to call in the change. Back on the phone with petco, this is all in the same day. They officially took my complaint and issued me a tracking number. The rep told me he would call fedex immediately to have it changed. Two days later it shows up in Colorado and the package was mangled. Unfortunately my sister opened it and resent it back to me in california. Paid for the extra shipping both times.

I then investigated the web site ordering. Unlike every other site on the planet, this one defaults to your last shipped address NOT the customers. I explained this to them as I do mega shopping on line and this was the 1st time I had encountered this and I have been shopping the web since it started. They told me it was too bad but my fault for not checking.

This is customer beware when ordering at Petco and don't expect them to respond with any solution other than its your fault. I now shop exclusively at petsmart. At least their site

They are non professional
Took our Cocker spaniel to be groomed at Petco in Mid Rivers, Missouri. Ticket said 11 bucks for the shave and 40 for the cocker cut and brush. WHAT BRUSH. The dog was shaved down to the skin on her entire body. They obviously had no clue as to what a cocker cut was. Her legs were shaved down to the skin also. She resembled a hound dog not a cocker spaniel any more. They didn't even bother to call me to tell me. They first charge you the money. THEN BRING your dog out. I have cried all week end knowing I have to deal with this until the hair now grows out to some amount of normal. If you love your pet please stay clear of this place. They are non professional and I am wondering if they even had a license to do something this grotesque.

Rewards scam!
Petco Rewards changes every few months by adding new "fine print". First you bought 10 bags within a year you get one free. And they count down to the day. Then they changed it to a coupon that takes 6-8 weeks to receive. Then they added fiscal years of Aug-Aug to get the reward. Good luck ever getting it. I finally just called them up and told them to delete the account so I am not tempted to ever go there again. If they don't delete my personal information, I will be calling them up again...

Retail Prices - buyer beware!
I am writing this review not to criticize the above product (which is of very good quality and performance) but rather to address the a pricing issue with the product. On 7/11/06, I bought this heater from the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Petco store. Upon checking out, I thought the price was too high when compared to Petco's online store as well as other online retailers. When I compared the prices that evening, the online price (w/o) shipping was $20 compared to the $40 I paid retail. I called both the store and Petco Inc. the following morning, and Petco representatives stated that they do not price match between the retail and online stores due to differing contract obligations. I priced the item on Amazon and with non-expedited shipping, the cost of the item would have only been $27.00.

Buyer beware - either buy from Petco's online store, another comparable online stores, or more preferably, support your local pet retailers and purchase from them as the Petco Retail Stores have basically been given a license to significantly overcharge customers. I highly doubt I will be shopping at Petco again until this policy is changed. There are other stores that price match between online and retail stores - like Circuit City - and there is no excuse for such a policy.
