Fraudulant refund process
I made a $239.46 purchase on December 3rd. It did not work as the clerk stated. On December 5th I returned this product. The cashier stated she could just refund my debit card as this was easier than cash for her. I agreed. As of todays date I still have not seen the refund. I called the store and asked about when I would see my refund. The clerk stated maybe in 30 days. Their system is having "problems". I asked why they dont tell customers this so that they can take cash at the time of the return and of course there was no answer. The clerk did not care and said I could talk to someone else if I wanted to. When you make a purchase they take your money immediately. If you return defective items they are holding your money for 30 days or more I was told. Maybe longer. They dont advise you of this. This is deceptive and a fraudulant business practice and clearly unethical and put the financial burden onto the customer and not the vendor.

Most rawhides made in other countries
I want to know why I couldn't find any rawhide chews for my dog that were made in USA. Most were made in China! My dog won't get anything that is made in China! By the time a recall goes out, it will be too late once they have consumed whatever poisen China has decided to put in their food items.

Lack of "Customer" Service
I went into this Petsmart...cash in hand to purchase an electronic dog training collar. We have a Yellow Lab that we were having troubles training AND more importantly, that we intended to start some field training with. The employee, who was also an "obedience" trainer at the store would not open the locked display case for me but spent the next 15 minutes explaining that I didn't need to purchase this, but rather attend her class for $125.00...I politely said thanks, but I'll just take the collar, but she still would not open the case...I actually never rec'd this item...so I left and went to Bass Pro and was delighted with their service and expertise on these items...so now all of our dog supply purchases come from any store but Petsmart...and we share this with everyone we meet who has pets...I guess they shouldn't display something they don't want to sell...perhaps the owners / managers would like to know this as well...

Guinea Pigs
I've bought 4 guinea pigs at this store. The first one dropped dead at a 1 and a half year old. One morning we went to feed her and she was already gone! The next one I got was fine at first then I noticed she was urinating a lot and drinking a lot of water. I took her to the vets and it turned out she has diabetes, she was 9 months old. At this point she seems to be doing fine with her medicine and special diet. The 3rd one I got wasn't eating properly, she kept her head tilted while eating and she lost weight. I took her to the vet and she had malocclusions of the teeth they told me the best thing to do would be to put her to sleep. I only had her for 2 months. She was 4 months old. The 4th one I got, soon after I got her had a cold I didn't think she was going to make it. After several weeks of worrying she finally got better and I still have her. I also got a hamster from this store that only lived to be 4 months old because she had a cold and didn't recover.
We are a family who care very much about our pets and treat them like a member of the family. There have been pets purchased from local non chain pet stores that have lived normal lives, and given us years of enjoyment. As a matter of fact the first pair of guinea pigs we’ve purchased was from one of these non chain stores, and we kept one of the babies from the litter and he lived to be 6 years old. I find it interesting that none of my other guinea pigs have lived passed 3 years of age that have been purchased at chain pet stores.

My dog was injured while in the pethotel
I left my dog Mandy at the Pet hotel in Columbia Maryland. Mandy is a very shy dog. She is as sweet as a dog can be. Even though she is a small dog I put her in the suite ($41.00) per day. I added the individual playtime since she is only a 20 pound dog and the group play areas seemed too rough for her.
We arrived to drop off Mandy and since I had been there several times before everything was ready to go. I was giving instructions to the person behind the counter about what Mandy needed. I repeated several important things since the employee seemed not to be paying attention. Most Importantly was that a particular cup was to be used for water. I can’t explain why but Mandy from puppyhood would only drink from this type of cup. I should have stopped right there and taken Mandy home.
I had arranged for a relative to call about Mandy each day since I was going to be out of the country. The first day the report was that Mandy was not eating or drinking much. That seemed normal as the change in environment may cause these issues. But each day the reports got worse. After several days of not eating much or drinking I called to be sure that the cup I had left for water was being used. I was shocked to hear that no one there knew about the cup.
Things got worse. The next day I got a call from my relative telling me that Mandy now was limping. Since I knew that Mandy had no injuries when I dropped her off I called Petsmart but no one there knew how this could happen. She was taken to the vet where x-rays were done. It was the diagnosis of the vet that Mandy had a sprain.
Things continued to get worse. The following day I was told that Mandy was again taken to the vet to be given fluids intravenously. I was also told that there was blood in her feces. At this point I could no longer stand the thought of Mandy being so miserable. Even though new travel arrangements needed to be made I decided that Mandy was more important than money. I took the first available flight and returned home that day.
Upon arriving at Petsmarts pet hotel, I found Mandy in terrible condition. She could not put any weight on her hind leg. She was dirty, covered in feces. I have never felt so guilty in my life. She saw me and I believe if dogs could talk, she would have asked why I would have left her there. My main function as a dog owner is to keep my dog safe. I failed in this case. I took her home and cleaned her up.
After several days with no improvement in her leg I took her to my vet to examine her. He immediately cringed when feeling her joint. His diagnosis was a torn ligament. I received a second opinion and decided to have surgery done to repair the injury.
I know that Mandy had no existing condition. I walk her everyday and certainly would have noticed any deterioration relative to her leg. I repeatedly inquired about how this could have happened but no one at the pet hotel could give me any explanation. A dog in a private suite with individual “playtime” somehow had this severe injury but no report was made? The behavior of Petsmart personnel has been shocking. I asked the store manager if he thought that since the injury occurred while she was in their care if he would take any responsibility and after rolling his eyes and shrugging told me that it’s just a dog and he would not take any responsibility.
Take this as a warning. Do not trust your beloved pet to Petsmart. Find a friend or relative to care for your pet. A pet sitter is an option too. I hope that no one ever has to look into their dogs eyes and see pain as I have. I will never forgive myself for my poor decision in this case. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Deadly service
I took my 3 dogs in to Pets Mart to board for a week. I was gone 3 days when I got a phone call one of the dogs was sick and on the way to the emergency vet. No more than 15 minutes later I got a call from the vet saying the dog needed to be put down immediately. Temp was 105-106 and he was blue. Vet thought it was bloat, but some things didn't quite fit. Dog had been throwing up, dogs can't throw up with bloat. Dog had a extremely high fever, dogs don't get fever associated with bloat. Pets Mart said dog was fine an hour prior to the emergency. NO WAY! I have talked to 3 vets now as well as a number of well known dog breeders. None of them believe Pets Marts story. All concur severe heat stroke, and the neglegence of Pets Mart lead to my dogs death. This was a family member who had just turned 4 years old and have just been to my vet, he was a healty, strong and beautiful dog. There is no way he laid in a 3x5 dog kennel and got bloat. Pets Marts story just doesn't work. I called there coporate office in Phoenix. I was told someone would return my call in 3 to 5 days. Well don't hurry. I am seeking legal action with the help of vets and breeders. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOUR LOVED ONES. NEVER NEVER BOARD YOUR DOGS AT PET'S MART!

Grooming
When we picked up our female standard poodle from Petsmart grooming salon in Fayetteville, NC this afternoon 22 August 09, I was horrified !! Almost all her nails are bleeding!!! I went back in the grooming salon and told the lady that groomed her that her nails are bleeding and that she had cut it very short, she took my poor poodle and applied some stuff in her nails and then told me that the nails is pressing in the concrete as the dog walk thats why it bleeds. What an excuse!! Jeez ...I felt so bad for my dog, , , and we just left since she cant stand this lady touching her anymore.

Sick Mice
My neice bought three mice (as pets) from Petsmart and had them for two months when they displayed various symptoms ( self mutilization of skin and eyes, eye discharge, and respiratory symptoms). These were her pets so, we contacted an Exotic Vet and made an appointment. The mice were treated for possible mite infestation and given antibiotics (Baytril). The mice never reponded to the antibiotics and they never had mites to begin with. Eventually they had to be euthanized. Autopsies were performed and it showed that two had the Sendai Virus and one had Sialodacryoadenitis, which are highly contagious diseases. Petsmart buys from breeders who must not immunize thier colonies and the baby mice appear healthy for awhile until the dormant virus rears its ugly head and slowly but surely kills them. Petsmart will buy from the lowest bidder and the health of the mice is not considered because most customers use them as feeders for snakes. My neice was devestated and we spendt $950 trying to get her pet mice well. These mice didn't stand a chance being that were virus infested and probably inbred. To those who buy feeders " Be Careful " because Sick Mice =Sick Snakes !!!
