In June 2010 I hired Phillips & Associates to do my bankruptcy. I have never felt more taken advantage of, left in the dark and just plain pissed off about how they conducted themselves and their services.

When I first went into their offices it absolutely felt like I was purchasing a car from a pushy sales rep. He continued to try and negotiate money out of me that I did not have at the time before agreeing to set up payments. Upon my payment agreement of 10 payments in the amount of 250.00 a month I decided to look for alternative lawyers and when I found one that would complete my bankruptcy for 1000.00 even including my class and a 299.00 filing fee, I then proceeded to Call Phillips and cancel my contract. Only then were they willing to come down on their price of a whopping $2500.00 to complete my bankruptcy for a total of $1300.00. Never knew that I could negotiate a price for these services. I agreed and stayed with Phillips.

I lived in Gilbert Arizona at the time of this Bankruptcy with their only two offices either in Mesa or Downtown Phoenix. I repeatedly called my assigned lawyer and never received return calls about turning in all of the documents I had collected. I was given the run around about coping the documents and was told I could take the originals in to the Downtown Phoenix office with my filing fee and that the girls behind the desk would be "happy" to help me- this was not the case- I walked into this office, stood in line and went up to the next available girl. Apparently it was her turn for lunch and she just got up and left right in the middle of me speaking with her, didn’t say a single word just left. So again I stood in line and waited. Just to find out that after driving 30 miles to their office they only take my filing fee and don't make copies. My "paralegal" was supposed to do that and he was in the Mesa office. What a waste of my time and gas money.

Finally, 3 weeks later I receive a phone call that they are ready for me to come in and sign my paperwork to submit for filing. Upon my first and only meeting with my lawyer I find out that they are missing several accounts that I had mentioned in the original paperwork.

2 weeks later I receive a letter that I need to appear in court for the bankruptcy discharge meeting in down town Phoenix. I took the time off work, found a babysitter and meet a representative at the court house on the given date and time. When I was asked to speak with the Trustee she noted that a wrong address had been submitted to them and she needed some of my documents (all of which I had given to the lawyers) in order to continue. My Phillips representative stands up and says “I don't have her file with me; it is in the mesa office, Can we reschedule? At this point I now have to take another day off work, and find a babysitter for that day as well because my “lawyers” were unprepared.

After all of this I finally receive my Discharge letter, I went down to open a new bank account and find out that two of the old bank accounts I had claimed in my bankruptcy didn’t make the filing paperwork because Phillips and Associates didn’t thoroughly check my credit report or my echecks reports. So I’m still in debt because of their laziness and lake of customer services and cannot file again for 8 years.

Do not USE Phillips and Associates. They will take your money, never call you, give you the run around and do a half ass job
