My wife and i are frequent customers of the Edenglen Branch. Today we stopped by the store to return meat(Tray of Chops that were expired) and buy the same thing with the expiry date being at least a few days after purchase. We went straight through to customer services and was assisted by a manager by the name of Jan Boom. After my wife explained the problem to him he asked for a receipt, which is understandable, but unfortunately we did not have one as my maid had threw it out. My wife then said to Jan, the label on the package was a Pick and Pay one and also had the Edenvale name of the top of the label. Jan then answered back to my wife and myself in a very kurt and rude manner, that we cannot always bring back items to be returned, this was amazing because of the fact that we took back expired cheese to the store with a receipt about a month ago. Jan then showed no compassion and care to us as customers and further more made us feel that he labelled us as customers that return items all the time. We are customers and as per the CPA, we are entitled and have the the full right of returning food that has expired or has reached its expiry date. As a manager(as Jan claimed he was), he was firstly supposed to apologise to the customer for the inconvenience caused, then assist the customer in a professional manner. The manner that we were treated by Jan Boom was unacceptable and poor. I find it appalling that Jan is a Manager representing such a large group. Jan in my opinion should take a course in customer service and people skills, as his behaviour to us today speaks louder than words, which spells ‘Pathetic’
I requested to speak to the store manager, and Jan Boom refused to give me his number, all Jan gave me was a business Card with the store number, This is my reason for the complaint being put on this site.
