I got a recommendation from The Fireplace Shoppe in Bryanston for Pieter Venter, a cabinet maker. He came to see me, seemed very knowledgeable and gave me a reasonable quote for some cabinetry I needed.

I paid him a deposit of R 4500 and he has since vanished off the face of the earth. His cell phone is permanently off - no doubt a pay as you go number.

Beware - do not be taken in by his 'I am an old fashioned craftsman' line - he is a crook - short & simple.
