Scam-unauthorized charges
Ordered a 9.95 language course, received the course. Then months later started receiving large CD compilations without ordering them. Then I received un authorized charges for 64.00 each. I called this company, they said I should have notified earlier, but i complained that I never received an invoice, I never received the terms to this deal, I NEVER Authorized nor ORDERED this product and demand a refund. I spent of 17 minutes of the phone to be told the there was no one that could help me. I then told this person to transfer me to his boss, I was then put on hold for long period of time. THIS IS A COMPLETE SCAM.

Deceptive, Misleading
I saw a $9.95 edal on a daily sale website for two language CDs from Pimsleur. When I clicked on it, I was re-directed to the company website. I ordered the $9.95 deal and thought I was done with it. I received what I ordered, then sometime later (due to the second shipment being lost and then found by the post office) I received a high-dollar language course that I did not order. Pimsleur uses the $9.95 deal to lure unsuspecting consumers into a "free trial" program for their expensive language course. By purchasing the $9.95 deal, one os automatially enrolled in the free trial (30-days). The enrollment in the high-dolalr course is poorly indicated on their website and can be eassily overlooked. Pimsleur had already debited the first insallment for the larger course from my card. I called the company and cancelled the program, mailing their course back to them. Now waiting to see if they indeed return my money. Beware of this company and anything they try to sell. They are misleading and deceptive.

Misleading website
Misleading: I paid $9.95 for the basic Italian CDs. I did not see the little asterik that said I would then be enrolled in the Gold program. Shortly after receiving my basic CD - which I did not even have time to start - I got a package with the first Gold level Italian lesson. They write "Congradulation!" on the package. Congradulations for what? Being duped into receiving more than I wanted? It cost me $10.75 to return the package. So my basic Italian lessons cost me double what was advertised on their site. They should be upfront about the enrollment in the Gold learning program rather than sneak in a little symbol that is easy to miss.

different stories by different people
I did order the $9.95 set of cd's. Then I was sent the first Gold course, in which the instructions did say that you had 30 days to preview the set and if not sent back you would be charged 4 installments of $59. Then level II and III came. I had emailed stroll and at the time I was on a LOA from work. So, I sent back a few days ago Level II & III, it was received and signed for at the "warehouse" address of 4412 Ludlow St, Philadelphia, PA 19104. I called 866-956-1067 which belonged to a different address of 340 N. 12th St, Ste. 422 Philadelphia, PA 19107 and answered the phone as "Stroll". I was told that there would be a restocking fee of $59 for both levels since I was outside my 30 day trial period. I told them that was not going to happen since I never opened the boxes and there was no indication of a restocking fee, so Tanya @ Stroll told me my account would remain in collections along with level I of $236. This is supposedly the "internal collections Dept. I hung up. Then, I called the number that comes with the levels @ 877-802-5283 who answered as pimsleur, she then told me that Levels I & II were received and would not count against me and that a settlement of $177 would have to be made on the account in two payments. With the 1st payment being received before the end of march or I could call in with a check card, which I will not do, cause then they likely will continue to try and charge me for more than that, the card they have now has been canceled. I asked what address to send the payment too and was given the following: 1600 JFK Way 3rd FL, Philadelphia, PA 19104, which is supposed to be the collections department.

Enrolled in Program Not Authorized
I sent off for the tial offer to learn Spanish and then with out authorization they sent me a Gold Course CD package and said that I had 30 days to return or they were going to charge my credit card 4 payments of $59.00. I contacted them to return the package and cancel telling them that I did not sign up for the program.
They said that this was automatic and is normal business practise, I don't think so. They game me a return number and said to ship anyway I want since I had to pay for the return shipping, WHAT A SCAM!
It cost me for something I never ordered, beware of this company.

Italian CD
I think the ads are misleading, I thought I was buying the course for $9.95. Then they sent me a "gold course" (the actual course) for a 30 day trial, to be billed at $59 for 4 installments. I called right away to send it back, they said I have 30 days to use it. I called back within 30 days to return, they gave me another 30 days. This happened for a couple of months. I repeatedly told them that I DO NOT WANT IT and that I closed my acct and wanted to make sure they don't charge me for it. WELL GUESS WHAT... I forgot this month and they charged me $59 for something I never even opened and the bank charged $25 for overdraft fees. I called and they said they'll credit the $59 and not the $25 even tho they could see that I called repeatedly to return it. I'm not even sure what I paid the $9.95 for. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

unauthorized free trial
I received a trial of German language CDs that I did not authorize on 12/15/08. When I tried to call the company to advise them that I did not order this, was not interested and wanted to return the item, I was on hold for approximately ten minutes when I was hung up on. I returned the CDs on 12/16/08 by UPS despite the fact that I could not get through to the company.

Scam and lies
After ordering the course online and receiving an email that my course had shipped, I expected to receive it by mid September at the latest since it was ordered on 8/31/08. I was anxious to receive it so that I could start studying German during a period of unemployment. I was given a UPS tracking number and when I tracked it, it said that they had received notice that a package was about to be shipped to me, and that a label was printed and waiting for the package. After waiting a month, I checked the tracking number again and I still had the same message and still had not received my German Course. By this time I really wanted the course so I could start swearing in German, but after contacting Pimsleur by email and speaking to a rep, I received a promise that my course would be resent, but it never happened and on top of that I was supposed to receive a call back from the rep when it shipped. Well there I was with another week of waiting and several emails and still no course, no refund and no response from the folks at Pimsleur. All that I receive when I email is the automated response with a ticket number. After nearly two months of frustration I truly believe there are better alternatives to the APPROACH THAT PIMSLEUR HAS INSTORE FOR THE NEXT UNSUSPECTING STUDENT!

Language CDs
I was lead to believe via an online advertisement that I was ordering a CD package for learning Mandarin Chinese.
Instead I received a box with nothing in it besides an invoice and a sheet of paper congratulating me on joining a language course of which I am 'one of few'. Total nonsense.
After filing this complaint I will also file a complaint with the BBB and send this company a letter via certified mail demanding my money back and cancelling from their 'program'.
