Unethical and Unlawful Practices
My first experience with Pinnacle Security seemed very good. They were pleasant, installed a security system, and sold the monitoring to ADT. Everything seemed fine, so two years later when they returned to upgrade my system since I was a good customer... I didn't realize the giant pain Pinnacle Security would become to me, and the hours, days, weeks, and months that they would cost me.
I realized I was paying two different companies for monitoring the same alarm system. I called ADT to ask why they were still billing me after Pinnacle switched me to a new company (Pinnacle had assured me it was better, affiliated with ADT, and everything would be smooth and at no additional cost to me). ADT told me that Pinnacle had written a contract for a new monitoring company while there was still a year left on the contract they sold to ADT and I had to pay ADT monthly or a huge cancelation fee. After calling Pinnacle with this news, they put me in touch with the department that specializes in this (Yes, they do it often enough to have a department). After a few calls they told me they would cancel the new service, refund a couple months monitoring, and I would have to call ADT to reconnect the old monitoring. ADT informed me they would have to come out to do this and I would have a fee for a service call. I had the ADT service man (by the way he was very good, friendly, helpful, and didn't bill all his time after hearing what Pinnacle had done) remove the new control unit and the cellular back-up and reinstall the old control unit, so I could send them back to Pinnacle. I did not have him remove the few new sensors, as I didn't want holes in my walls, paint, wallpaper, etc.
Pinnacle calls (the first of countless calls from the autodialer) to tell me I owe them $450 for the three sensors or they want to come in and remove them. I told them that if they wanted to remove them they needed to fix the holes in the walls, or I would keep them and I offered to send them the two units I paid to have removed and repacked in the original boxes. They wanted $450. I refused. They called, and called, and threatened, and called... Eventually they decided that they would settle for $200+. Again, paying for their double written contract after I had to pay ADT to put my system back wasn't agreeable to me. More calls! Then a call telling me they would settle for $50. I asked $50 and you will stop calling me? And I won't have to deal with you ever again? $50 and the account is settled and closed? They said yes to everything. I asked if they wanted me to send the two units I had boxed-up back. They said no, just send $50. It was worth $50 to get them out of my life, so I paid.
Months later, the autodialer and calls start again. They say I owe them $50. I say I settled with you. They have recordings of the phone conversation I had settling the account. They inform me that that person (their rep) was mistaken and they are SENDING ME TO COLLECTIONS!
How much longer Pinnacle will still be a pain in my life, if they will effect my credit score, if I will end-up in court with them... is unknown. But, I can say that if anyone wants to have any peace in their lives AVOID PINNACLE SECURITY. Call ADT or another security monitoring company direct.

Contract Disaster
One Saturday we were approached by a door-to-door rep from Pinnacle Home Security Systems offering free installation and equipment with a 36 month contract for a home security system. The contract runs about $40.00 per month, which is a lot of money for us, or most people; however we have a seriously ill family member who would benefit by an alert system that can be worn around the house. It will dispatch help at the touch of a button should he fall, etc. The medical alert feature doesn't work from the downstairs where the ill person spends most, if not all of his time. That wasn't something we discovered until after the three days had passed. (There's a three day window when you can turn around and cancel the agreement/contract.) Once the system was installed we learned that it is a 39 month contract, not a 36 month one.
Within the first two weeks the phone line stops working. So, in the mist of working two jobs with a seriously ill family member in and out of the hospital/emergency room we stop to call the phone company. Obviously, it's a problem if we can't get messages or calls from doctors, pharmacists, concerned family...you get the picture. The phone company narrows down that the security system has some how begun dialing out continuously, even if it's disarmed. Between changing clothes to head off to job number two we contact Pinnacle. They dispatch a contracted technician who will call within 72 hrs to set up a time to when they can look at it. In the meantime, we have life threatening medical needs and no phone line, nor one for several days. Who knows when we will have one again?
We didn't know it would cause trouble with the phone line, or that it could take days on end to have it looked at, let alone fixed - that wasn't in the contract... We can’t use our phone. What if we needed to call 9-1-1? The personal alert feature doesn’t work for us. To boot, the alarm system literally freaks out the ill family member, putting them in severe panic, crying spells. This is not a product that will meet our needs. It’s not what we expected and now we can’t get anyone with authority to cancel the contract.
Okay, the contract doesn't tell us that the police department could charge huge fees if the system goes off in a false alarm. (An acquaintance who had previously worked for another company as a rep through out the number of somewhere between $1000.00.) Pinnacle couldn't give us a range of what some counties may charge, but they did verify that you can be billed by your local services if they are dispatched and it turns out it’s a false alarm.
Forty minutes later, long periods on hold neither one has the ability to cancel contracts the Pinnacle phone rep say, yet she is the cancelation department she tells us. Next, we requested to have the auto bill feature disengaged and were told no; more than once. Is that legal? After the third or forth round the representive says, well I can do that for you for a fee of $25.00. Oh, so you can do something you said previously you couldn't. I see. I can conclude that you can cancel a contract but you just won’t. Do they threaten to fire you if you do, I ask myself. You certainly aren’t a customer advocate providing an outstanding experience.
When the person you are speaking with doesn't have authority to respond to your request then you ask to speak to the next level, right. "He is unavailable." Of course, "he's unavailable." May I please be transferred, may I please have his number...voicemail...have him call me... Well, the round and round request to speak to someone else resulted in no, no, no. So, no one in the cancelation department can cancel a contract, even one that has been broken, one that doesn't work as expected, could incur additional local county charges not previously informed about, and most importantly one that causes an ill person to be at risk for serious repercussions. No one can escalate a call? That’s interesting.
What choice is left, an attorney, the Better Business Bureau? Help.

Unreasonable contract
I installed a Pinnacle alarm system in May. I asked the sales person if there was a contract or if I could cancel at any time because there was the possibility I might be moving. He said there was no contract.
I did indeed move out of town and I called to cancel my service. I was told I had to pay the balance of the THREE YEAR contract, which adds up to approximately $1400. I told her I was told by the sales person that there was no contract and she apologized that I was given wrong information! I told her I've moved and no longer lived at that house and she said I could (a) transfer the service to who is living there now, (b) I could have it installed in my new house (I'm renting) or (c) pay the penalty. I asked who I could explain the situation to in order to get an exception made and she said no one would waive it.
BEWARE MISLEADING SALES AND UNREASONABLE PRACTICES!
