Contracted with Berni Platko of Platko Enterprises, Ltd. to completely gut and remodel upstairs hall bath. Paid them $20, 000. There were numerous problems along the way but the most serious and costly to fix are: 1) they raised the floor to an unacceptable height resulting in them installing a handicap ramp to connect the hallway carpeted floor to the new bathroom floor; 2) the beadboard wainscoting installation is shoddy, gapping in places, falling apart at the seams; 3) they installed three different height baseboards within the same space; 4) the wall niche was supposed to have an arch but the arch is uneven and all wavy and sloppy; 5) the mechanical/electrical is a code violation; 6) they caused major damages to my home with nail pops to the adjacent rooms, gouges and scrapes to my walls that they refuse to take responsibility for. There are other issues too. I have contacted this company numerous times but they have not addressed the issues. Also, I learned they failed to even obtain a permit that was required by our county. At Ms. Platko's suggestion, I paid her a $650 deposit to hold a piece of granite that would match the upstairs piece in case we chose to use on a future project. The granite company accidentally broke the granite and refunded the money; however, Ms. Platko converted that money I paid her in trust to her own use and has failed to acknowledge or refund it. I paid $20, 000 in good faith and did not get what I paid or bargained for. Everything about this job spells: ROOKIE! They are dishonest, unqualified, and their workmanship is inferior, substandard and unprofessional. I have obtained professional opinions from licensed general contractors as to the lousy workmanship done by Platko and they concur in their opinion that the floor is improper, etc.! I have gotten estimates for all the repairs and it will cost approximately $11, 000 to fix their rotten workmanship. They represented to me they were insured too and, although I have requested proof of insurance several times in the aftermath of this disaster, they have failed to provide that proof of insurance. They have lied to me on a number of occasions. When I contacted my county, they concurred that Platko Enterprises, Ltd. was in violation because they had not obtained the proper permits. I am in pursuit of a refund from Platko and I hope this will serve as a caveat to anyone considering hiring these unprofessionals.
