Plato's Closet Reviews

horrible service
Plato's closet Sucks. I've been to that store less than 5 times and every time I've gone I get no money for my clothes. Today for example, I tried selling a hurley dress (costs around 55 dollars), an oakley bathing suit (valued at 75 dollars), and a few other big clothing brands like victoria secret, roxy, billabong, american eagle, and hollister. I got 3 dollars for a vest, a necklace from forever 21 and a book. They told me all my clothes were outdated, Everything that I had taken in I've bought them less than a year ago. I think that Plato's closet is a horrible store. I was looking around in the store just to see if i have a chance to make atleast 15 dollars, well as you know, i got 3 dollars. Sorry, $3.50. I eel that you have to be friends with the employees or know them to be able to sell your clothes. I think its bogus what they give you for the clothes. The clothes I saw there today were all worn out, they had deodorant stains, and the whole store smelled like a gross second hand store. All the employees there are always sarcastic and rude. I know I can't sell my clothes for 100% profit but I think i deserve a little more than just 3 dollars and change and for all my clothes to be bought. I'm better off trying to sell my clothes on Ebay or Amazon.

stealing
I went to the Plato's Closet in Jacksonville with a garbage bag full of clothes and purses. They told me it was going to be 30 minutes and I could not leave the store. The 30 minutes turned into an hour and a hlaf...not fun when you have a toddler with you. When I was finally able to collect the money, the cahsier showed me what she was able to take (4 PAIRS OF PANTS A FEW SHIRTS AND A PAIR OF SHORTS) and offered me 25.00. I took it because I needed the money and I did not fit in those clothes anymore. Since I was planning on donating it anyways I just fiured I'd try to make a little extra cash before I went to the Salvation Army. When I got home to sort out everything for Salvation Army I realized that the purses were not in the bag. I was going to sell them on Ebay since they were not taken by Plato's Closet. I had a Dooney and Bourke, Fossil, Coach and a Vera Bradley in there. Those theives LIED about what they were really taking from me and did not give me what I was owed. I am EXTREMELY pissed off that this company makes a profit from stealing belongings that people brought in to help them with their business. Never again will this company get any of my business nor will I recommend them to anyone. Also, the clothes in the store aren't really "in". Atleast not at this location. You can also buy new and more stylish clothes at regular stores when they have sales.

Ridiculous Demands!
I will NEVER EVER GO HERE AGAIN. I warn you all not to as well. A few years ago they only offered me THREE DOLLARS, yes I know it's hard to believe but three dollars for a bunch of quality clothing. I told them I'd rather just donate it and took it back. Today I went there as I am desperate for some cash. I had a bunch of jeans folded in a paper grocery bag. The girl told me she would "love to look over" my items but "they need to be in a laundry basket or box." Are you serious? I live on the other side of town, no way in hell I was going to drive back home and bring my own laundry basket to this filth of a store. I can't believe they can't look over clothes because they're in a bag. There is NOTHING ON THE WEBSITE STATING THIS RULE. What's the big deal? I know for a fact a couple of years ago I brought my clothes in a paper bag. Don't waste your time folks. Rude people, bad deals. Two dollars for a really nice pair of jeans my ass. Stay away. I hope they go out of business.

Plato's Closet- Customer Service
Wow..that is really sad. I myself have had some interesting experiences with Plato's Closet. Because of those experiences I won't ever shop there. As a matter of fact, I have never wanted to shop there..They sell used clothes for the same price that something brand new at the mall would cost. Along with that, I also take very good care of my clothes but being that I'm a young black woman the girls that work in the store aren't so kind to me. I used to wear a size 13 in jeans but after losing a lot of weight I now wear a 5 or a 7 so I basically have all of these clothes that are way too big for me. When I first heard of Plato's Closet, I thought I should go there and try to sell the clothes that I can no longer fit. One thing people know well about me is that no matter what size I am, I love clothes, I love to shop. I also love a variety of different name brands. So Yes, I felt some kind of way when I took some of my Baby Phat and Apple Bottom jean and capri pants to this store, and it's like Plato's Closet was not interested in them. I know girls that would kill to have a piece from my wardrobe but I have done my share as far as charity goes and after paying a pretty penny for a lot of my clothes I feel like I should get a little change back after selling..Today I went there with a bag full of the kind of clothes I just mentioned, and she tells me that they wanted 3 items for $10.50. I thought she was joking..She wanted to buy 3 apple bottom capri pants from me for $10.50. I politely told her I wasn't interested and that I would be taken those clothes back. That was just ridiculous to me. I have reason to believe that it had something to do with the color of my skin and the sizes on the clothing. Especially since I seen other girls who were white who were there to sell older styles of clothing with stains and yet they still received somewhere between $70-$100. Sounds suspect to me. Even if that is how business is done it still doesn't change how the staff treats customers. The staff is very rude and they treat you like dirt. One staff member even had an attitude with me when I said I was taking clothes back. If she wasn't trying to rip me off I could've settled for the deal. It's like how snobby can you be working at a used clothing store?

Waste of Time and Gas Money
This is what it comes down to:

A) There are more UNHAPPY customers than HAPPY customers who have been to Plato's closet

B) Buying- It's a decent place to get some good deals, but you can find better deals on the clearance racks of department stores such as Macy's, JCPenney... If you are going to spend $15 on a pair of old, used jeans, wouldn't you rather spend it on a pair of NEW jeans from the clearance rack?

C) Selling- It seriously is a waste of time to even "give it a shot" . You go in with items that are only 5 months old, and get nothing for it.

D) In the end you are not gaining anything from going to Plato's Closet. You are wasting TIME and GAS MONEY.

Horrible customer service
I have just had one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had in one of the Platos Closet stores. The one located on 1808 W International Speedway Blvd, Suite 504, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Sunday (yesterday) afternoon I bought a purse from there and this morning when I brought it to work I noticed that one of the handles was ready to come off. I brought it back to the store and was not going to ask for a refund just a credit or another purse.

At this point I was told by the owners that there are no refunds on purses and then they proceeded to blame me for ruining the purse. I mean really! I spent $30 on a purse and I was going to ruin it! I understand that the purse being used was slightly frayed. I am okay with that but the purse should have never been sold in the first place if the handle was ready to come off. Is that the kind of reputation they want for their stores? They were rude and yes I told them this was unacceptable and they could at least give me store credit or another purse. Again they chose to blame me for ruining the purse. Honestly why would I have bought it in the first place if I was going to ruin it in less than a day? When I asked them for the corporate number and their names so I could call and complain they asked me to leave and told me I could get the information on the website. Again horrible customer service. Not once did they attempt to work with me, instead they chose to blame me and then to make matters worse they asked me to leave.

manager/treatment
DO NOT GO TO THE CARY CROSSROADS LOACTION...ANN THE MANAGER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE WHO HAVE QUESTIONS OR DON'T KNOW ALL THE RULES OF HER LITTLE FRANCHISE CONSIGNMENT SHOP CLOTHING STORE. SHE IS A RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL PERSON WHO DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE WHO ARE ONLY TRYING TO HELP HER BUSINESS PROSPER. THIS COMPANY IS TOO PICKY FOR WHAT IT REALLY IS. HIGH END MY ASS!

ANN...KISS IT!

Bad customer service
I recently decided to go through my closet and sell back a few items to Platos Closet. My clothes were gently worn and name-brand. Included in the items I took were a few pairs of awesome heels (all name brand), which had only been worn twice because of the size being too small. Estimated wait time was well over an hour, but since I had some time to kill I figured I'd just browse through some of the items. Nearly two hours later my items were ready and here comes the shocker!! They had the nerve to tell me my clothes were out of date and the shoes were too worn. OK really..the clothes they had in the store were old, out of date and non-named brand. The shoes had the heel taps gone, toes worn out and totally out of date. I work in a shoes store so I'm fully aware of the current styles. What really gets me..who decided to purchase the crap they have in the store??? That person clearly didnt understand the meaning of "gently worn". I will NEVER SELL OR SHOP at that place again!! I'd rather set up my own yard sell get a few $ for my clothes/shoes. I just dont understand how the make an money with their current buying policy???

selling clothes back
I went into Plato's Closet to sell back a bunch of clothes, they told me it'd be a half hour wait and i told them to take their time that I had errands to run. I returned 5 hours later, to be told that nothing could be taken back becuase of 'stains, old labels, and the clothing being too worn.' Once i got home I went through eerything to find that barely anything had been looked over. It seems as though they just went through the first couple things on the top of the bags, because everything on the bottom was exactly folded and put the way i had it.

Hardly any of it was worn, and nothing was very old. This place is a waste of time, and a load of crap.

Waste of Time!! No Style!!
This place is horrible! I had gone here 2 years ago to sell my designer jeans that I had purchased then lost weight and could not fit in. I sold them 10 pairs for a lousy $40. I needed the cash so I took it and left. I was just there again to try to sell a bunch of designer blouses, tanks, sweaters, handbags and jewelry. Most of my clothes were from Guess, Macy's, Marshall's and Nordstrom. All of my items are totally in style. I am selling because I had not worn these items much (some at all) and thought someone else could get more wear out of them. I went through all the crap the store currently has to see if my stuff would have a place there. I was laughing my butt off as I looked through the trash they had. I knew my stuff would shine and sell before any of that other crap. After waiting 45 minutes in an empty store, the rude manager says they do not want any of my stuff because it's not in style. WHAT?!! I told her she clearly doesnt even know what is in style and needs to read a fashion magazine once in a while. I guess pajama tops with stains on them are in and shoes that smell and are worn out and warped are in. Also, dollar store looking handbags are in. I mean, the trash they have is a joke! Not to mention, the people that work there are completely rude and obnoxious. I would not recommend this place to anyone! If you want to save/make a buck, go to a vintage/consignment shop. I did! I got an incredible offer for all of my items. I was told my items are the kind that sell in no time. There is a high demand for clothes like mine. I just want to add that I am a fashion designer and I know what the current trends are. This store is full of out dated, frumpy dumpy, snot rags! If you need a rag to clean your car with, shop here! Buyer/Seller Beware!
