I just got beaten up by the military police in a public bus heading to Sao Paolo. One military police officer held me down, twisting my neck, my shoulder, and my arm. Another police officer helped him. I screamed for help. Clearly, it was painful. They did not stop. They grabbed my camera and purposefully broke it and threw it on the floor. They said that tourists are not allowed to take photos.
I asked for the police officers names (there were 6 military police officers on the bus). They refused to give me their names.
Excessive force? I thought this country, Brazil, had freedom of expression and the rule of law.
