auto dealership rip off
We purchased a 2007 Honda Civic from Gerald and a salesperson at Port Motors. We agreed on a sales price, that they would detail the car, and place new tires to replace the worn. They delivered the car the next day cleaned, but not detailed. Two of the tires were the original, two were replaced with other used. It was explained by Gerald that when they checked the tires they decided they had good wear so they decided not to honor that. An independent mechanic not only confirmed the tires were used, but also pointed out that the tire had been plugged on the side of the wall, which could have resulted in a blow out. This car was sold to my sixteen year old Son, who was with me when we bought it. The mechanic also pointed out that the AC was broken/leaking, and the front end had some issues that needed to be looked at and was the cause of ongoing noise at acceleration. In speaking with Gerald he told us to bring the car there. We did, and he then sent us to Carol Tire on Okeecobee to have the four tires replaced. When we arrived at Carol, we were informed we would only get one replacement tire. I went back and forth by phone between Carol and Gerald at Port. Each time Gerald at Port would say, "Oh that's not right, I will have my Boss call. " Then he stopped taking my calls. I called an Attorney friend who advised me to just get done what I could in that moment, so we took the one replaced tire and went back to the dealership. I asked Gerald why he played this game, didn't honor the deal or change the tire. He complained that Carol Tire was difficult, and offered nothong more. They kept the car to fix the AC look at the noise. The next day we went back, he said the AC was all fixed and the front end issue was covered by warrenty but had to go to the Honda dealership. We left. The AC had not been fixed. We checked the car into the Honda dealership on Blue Heron where we were shown and advised that the tires were all "shot, " the AC was broken, and then he asked if the dealership told me the car was in an accident. The dealership provided me with a clean carfax, and if they knew, they did not advise us of this. Honda said the repairs underneath were made very poorly and had to be redone in order to prevent the noise ($180.00) the AC will need to be fixed at approximately $400 and the tires were close to $600.00. Both Honda and the mechanic said Port Auto should never have sold the vehicle in this condition. I called and spoke to the Owner, Mr. Hauer, and he said that "maybe you just don't like having a used car, so if you want to bring it in and trade it towards a new Honda, I'll sell you a new Honda." When I said this was not acceptable, he said if I wanted to pursue it, HE would call HIS lawyer, and hung up on me. I am asking that the repairs made to put it into "sellable" condition be reimbursed to me. I also think the ethics of this business seriously need to be looked into. We were promised to our face certain things, then in some surreal weird way told they didn't understand it themselves. My guess is I am not alone in being ripped off and being a "victim" of the way they choose to do business.
