16 year old credit card debt
I was contacted in reference to a 16 yr old credit card bill for my husband (who i am currently separated from) and was told that i am legally responsible for a bill to which i had no knowledge of in the first place.They stated that they had my ss # and asked that i recite it to them(ignorantly)i did. they stated that i must make payment arrangements to satisfy the debt.i believe that the statue of limitations has exhausted on this issue and informed them of my knowledge they insisted that the debt be paid.

Harrassment
This company is phoning our home 4-5 times per week in an attempt to collect a debt we do not owe. Have asked them to mail documentation to us at our home address proving what we owe for, how much, and to whom and we would review it and get back to them. They continue to call and have never sent us anything in the mail.

Fraudulent Recovery Attemp
I was just contacted by Portfolio Recovery Associates;
Number they called from: 757-961-3544
Call back number 866-532-9661
They tried to convince me that I have an outstanding 11 year old debt with Dillards. I took down their call back information and contacted Dillard's credit; there is no debt and I have a zero balance. I was told that this is a fraudulent attempt to coerce people into thinking that they owe a debt and need to pay it.

Unreasonable
I recieved a call from this debt collector back in the fall 2009. To begin with, they ask for a different name than mine. I told them my real name and the male voice said; oh yeah, I need to speak to you. The customer service representative went on to inform me, I was deliquent with an outstanding credit card debt. My response was, what are you talking about? He explained the year this debt was made ( 200o ) and the outlandish amount. I disputed his comment. This young man seemed relentless, so I politely hung up the phone.
Then came the numerous telephone calls until, I finally responded and ask them to send more information pertaining to this account. I specifically asked for the original credit card statement that would show purchases, store (s) names and dates of these purchases. What do they do? They send a notice with the account holders name ( mine ), the amount or balanced owed, the date account was opened. That was it. It took Portfolio three months to send that measly little bit of information? What happened to my REQUEST to review the original credit card statement?
Portfolio Recovery even sent me an Identity Theft Affidavit form to fill out. I refused to fill it out and send it back. It was asking too much personal information on myself. Why would they want MY drivers license number on this form? In this affidavit it wants me to point fingers by asking; person or persons that might had used my personal information to obtain money, credit, loans & etc... I'm not aware of anyone that would do that. It just made me uncomfortable to answer some of the questions.
The latest notice from Portfolio Recovery Associates was to let me know this will be an ongoing dispute. I'm starting to feel harrassed at this point. Maybe, I should contact the Federal Trade Commission about this dilemma. I agree with others, that Goverment should step in and stop these collectors. I've heard many stories from persons, that couldn't deal with this kind of mental and emotional cruelty.

Placed A Judgement On Me
Received a call from Portfolos Litigations Department on 2/4/10 saying that I had a debt for Providian Credit card I said no I was not aware of the debt . She said that it shows there that I have been paying on the account. I then thought she was talking about a debt that I had agreed to pay for in 2008. I then thought that the people I had been paying changed me over to their company until I checked my credit report and found out that she had lied to me. I then found out that I had a judgement out on me in NYC for the year 2007 which I knew nothing about. I have not lived in since 2000. I feel they delibertly did that so I could not defend myself. I have read so many things about this company that I am not sure what to do. I know this judgement is going to stay on my credit report unless I go to New yorks Bronx County Court House to try to vacate this judgement, which will take several visits to prove I was not a resident at that time and I was not served properly. What shall I do. If you can help please let me know.
Thank You
Ms. Lelia Brodwith
