Hillsborough County employers will not hire black men of dark complexion for front of the house positions. Because of the color of our skin, we are being racially profiled as theives and drug users. Most of these employers emphasize during interviews (if you get that far after all the testing) that thorough background checks are done and you will be drug tested. Not that this alone is a problem, offering them positions and then doing such seems as if a waste of time to most human resources of these employers. Equal opportunity at most of these businesses are advertised as paramount for their hiring.
I as a very dark complected man, have been turned down by various businesses in the Tampa, Florida from Law firms to dishwashing positions. Most of my experience is administrative support and I have applied for well over 500 jobs in the Tampa, Florida Hillsborough County area. They only hire very light skinned men to drive UPS and Fed-ex vehicles. When applying for various positions in Hillsborough County and called for interviews, human resources sounds very excited until they meet me. Then I am either told the position is filled or given a half - hearted interview. As if this isn't enough of an insult when you are notified that the position has been filled they have no actual reason to offer for wasting your time on the lenghty process that they have put you through.
These interviews are usually conducted by white men of whom feel threatened. This issue in Hillsborough county really needs to be addressed. Any suggestions provided would be greatly appreciated.
